I'm a SL newbie and have just rented my first apartment. I'd really like to use some of my RL photos framed as art on the walls of my new place. It seems to me that I could use one prim and create a flat rectangle (or square as appropriate), then apply the photo to one side as a texture. Am I on the right track here? For a frame, I could apply bars around the edges of the photo in Photoshop. Is that the most appropriate way to do it?

Yes you are...other options:
You can make a flat prim and taper both sides for a beveled frame then put your photo in the center or do as you suggested. If you dont like the one prim beveled look, use a flat prim (that holds the photo) and then a second on top that is hollowed for a 3d frame. And dont just limit yourself to squares ![]() I have a friend "MythCreations" that sells a nice set of frames that are drag and drop that you can put your photos in as well. Then there are some rotating frame/pic scripts out there also which will let you put more than one photo in the frame and rotate the pics automagically or you can buy the premades and all you have to do is drop the photos in. |

You can also find real life frames on the internet and photoshop your picture into the area, for the one prim framed art

... Does anyone have a suggestion as to what size roughly I should make my image in Photoshop before importing it into SL? Take a look at the sticky in the Texturing Tips forum called "Texture Size, Pixel Counts, Video Memory, and File Formats": /109/e6/150360/1.html _____________________
