Where are the Flexi Rules?

Where can I find some detailed info on Flexi prims?

It seems a torus can't be made flexi...won't let me select that option.

I want to have two boxes connected by a flexible "cable" (flexi cylinder). But after linking the 3 together and set the flexi, the flexi detaches from one of the boxes. Changing which object is the root prim does not seem to matter. Where are the rules to tell me how to do this? Will the Wiki have a Flexi Chapter soon?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanx!

As far as I know, you can't change Where an object is flexi....from what I've seen it always takes one end as static and the opposite flexi.

What would be nice is if instead of this rule, if they made you able to set anchor points where it will remain as stationary as the flexi values will allow it.

Not sure if this can be done with a script or not as I'm still new at the programming side.

How flex prims work

The base of a flex prim remains rigid. The prim flexes relative to that base.

You cannot "daisy chain" prims and designate the entire structure as flex.

For any flex prim, the base or "root face", if you will, is the part that moves relative to the prim it's linked to, or to the mounting point on the avatar it's being worn by. This gives the flex prim its relative motion information so that it knows how to wiggle.

Since motion information comes from the server side, and the flex effect is done on the client side, there is no way to convey the motion of a parent flex prim to the base of the next prim down the chain. The server has no direct knowledge of where the waving tip of a prim is - only the client knows that.

Therefore, no successive dependency of one flex prim on the motion of the tip of another flex prim is possible.

So, sorry - you can't make a chain of flex prims that way.

If you orient two prims so that they are the same size, where the tip of one precisely meets the base of the other and vice versa, you can use textures to blend the appearance of the two prims if you're careful. Given the same parameters, the two prims will flex in synch when they move.

This trick has been used successfully by a Furry named "Beatfox", whose work appears in the videos section of this forum.

Thanks Kalel for the detailed explanation. Actually a friend of mine was working on a vehicle like a dogsled. An object of some sort would pull the sled via the flexible cable. I guess it won't work if we can't attach the sled.

Sounds like a recommendation for a new feature.
