Changing the properties (like the sound it makes when hit) is done at the bottom of the "Object" tab under "Materials". Changing the texure is done on the "Texture" tab. Click the square pic above texture to change the texture and the one above color to tint it.

Doesn't work in what way? Are you trying to change the actions of the object or the appearance?

ya i realize that but cant you start out creating with a diff material than wood you can select at the bottom but it dosent work The drop down box at the bottom doesn't change the appearance of the object, just the properties. No matter what you select, it won't change how the object looks. To do that you have to apply a texture using the texture tab. There are textures in the Library, the first folder in your Inventory. You can also upload textures or you can buy some already uploaded in SL by searching for a Texture vendor in the find Box. I hope this helps. Thank you for spewing sense into this thread. _____________________

I looked at it inworld. He was having the kind of texture problems I have seen a bunch of people with today - the library does not show up for selecting textures. I have seen three people with this problem since the update. Has anyone else run into it?

Alberto does bring up a good point. There really should be a unique default texture for each material type. This would be a justifiable feature request. Even if you change the texture later, at least you would be able to visually distinguish prim material types from the their default textures when the prim is first created..

If you really want to work with prims that are a different color for each material, or a different shape, or 'custom default' prims that are different in any way from the standard default prim... you can do it. Just make yourself a little "Prim Rack" that you'll use when building.
Set the prims prims to the way you'd like them to be rezzed when building, then take them into inventory. Put them all into a folder called, "Prim Rack." When you build, instead of using the 'create' tool, just drag from your inventory and go from there. You could even create an object that you can place in-world, with all your favorite 'custom default' prims. When you need a particular prim, shift/drag it from the rack as a copy. |
