Why should he not try making these items Willow? Others do it successfully, why not him?

From: birminghamcity123 Scott how do i make avatars Avatar body modeling was covered in your first experience in SL on Orentation Island. For things beyond that, what you want to do is click "downloads" at the top of this screen and grab yourself the templates, the Starter Guide, and the Fashion Design Guide. You'll need to have a good imaging program like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or GIMP to use the templates. From: birminghamcity123 Scott and lightsabers This requires knowledge of building, texturing, and scripting. If you're artistic, you will likely learn the first two very quickly. If you have an affinity for programming, you can learn scripting as well. From: birminghamcity123 Scott and armour Learn to use the building tools, and learn how to attach objects to avatars. Start with the help guides, and come back with any specific questions about anything you don't understand. From: birminghamcity123 Scott and guns and bling jewlery and force fields ? Same answer as the lightsaber. I'm sorry I'm not being more specific, but you're asking how to do a hundred things at once, which leads me to believe it's best to start with the very basics. If I'm misinterpreting, and you're already more advanced than I'm giving you credit for, then by all means say so, and I'll try to give you more detailed help.

for making custom avatars what are good programs that give you a descent free trial version, the poser 6 demo doesnt allow you to open files from what I found. I want to start trying to make a custom avatar but what I want to make is a quadraped.

From: Arcs Dmytryk for making custom avatars what are good programs that give you a descent free trial version, You already have it. It's called Second Life. All geometry in SL is made entirely inworld, including all body parts and 3D objects. Therefore, avatars can only be made inworld. The only things SL can import are images (textures), animations, and sounds. That means you can make the pattern for a shirt in Photoshop, for example, but the only way to make theactual shirt that the pattern goes on is inside SL. From: Arcs Dmytryk the poser 6 demo doesnt allow you to open files from what I found. I'm not sure about that since I've never used the demo, only the full package, but that sounds a bit odd. In any case, it doesn't really matter in relation to your question. Poser is used with SL for making animations avatars can use inworld, not for making the avatars themselves. It can also be used as a tool to preview clothing and skin textures before uploading them into SL, but you can't use it to actually make anything that SL can import besides animations. Clothing and skin textures can be made in any good 2D imaging program such as Photoshop, GIMP, or Paintshop Pro. You can then view them on the 3D avatar model in SL, or externally in any 3D package that can import the models (Poser, Maya, 3DSMax, Blender, etc.). Alternately, you can import the models into a 3D paint program like Tattoo, Deep Paint, Body Paint, Maya, etc. and then paint right on them. From: Arcs Dmytryk I want to start trying to make a custom avatar but what I want to make is a quadraped. For your quadraped av, you have 2 options. If you want to make a 4-legged animal like a tiger or a dog, you'll need to use an animation override device to substitute the default bipedal walk and stand animations for quadrapedal ones that you've made in Poser. If you want to do a 4-legged humanoid like a centaur, you'll need to build the hind legs and aft body sections out of prims, and attach them to the human av body. From there, if you want those pieces to animate, you'll need to script them to do so, which is not a small task. You can't actually alter the avatar skeleton. EDIT: Haha, Kris, simultaneous posting. Go us!

Poser doesnt make avatars. Poser makes poses. or animations. So you could use it to create an animation that contorts you into a quadraped, I guess, and animations to make you walk on all fours. But you would still need to build your avatar in SL. Poser can also be used to render clothing to include realistic lightsources etc, and then cut, stretched, blended and shaped to fit the SL avatar templates. Some designers use it extensively this way to make stuff like catsuits, but frankly I find it more trouble than it's worth Btw, there are already quadraped avies you can buy in SL (or you can read Chosen's post made at the exact same time with far more detail )
