Tried a search and not quite finding what I was looking for. A couple of simple questions from a noob here:
I have an existing object, a table to be precise. Using Edit I am able to access the Cut function under the Object? tab. Cut works fine and I can change one face of what is a cube from a rectangle to a triangle using a series of cuts. Thing is I wants the cuts to be along a different axis. How do I change the axis along which the cuts are made?
I own a tub which is made up of say 20 prims. I want to enlarge the tub in two dimensions and hold the third dimension constant. I have been able to use “stretch” and enlarge all three dimensions at the same time. I have also tried to manually increase the X, Y, or Z dimension but find that only increases one piece of the tub.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Second question first.
On a set of linked prims like your tub, the only resizing you can do is in all three dimensions.
You can change one dimension at a time, but only on one prim at a time. Select the Edit Linked Parts button, select the prim you want to work on, press and hold CTRL+ALT, and use the colored sizing handles to stretch the prim in the desired dimension. Repeat for other prims until the tub is the size and shape you want.
Note: It may be simpler to enlarge the whole tub until it's the size you want in your two desired dimensions. It will then be too big in the third dimension. Use Edit Linked Prims to reduce the size of the tub's prims in the third dimension.
Cut Path only works in one dimension. You will need to rotate the tabletop and then re-size it (squash it flat, stretch it back out on the sides), and then use Cut to get the shape you want.

There's script in the library that will help you change axis while keeping the scale. /15/79/115851/1.html#post1106830Lindal is correct about the scaling of multiple prims. Only proportional scales are possible, no squash and stretch. Sad but true.

Thank you both for your responses. Given the table I am trying to cut already has all the textures in place, I can not just resize it. Looks like I will try using the script.

ok, I tried to put the script into the table and I get a syntax error. I open new script.....delete what is there and copy and past from the post. Precisely where should I begin and end the copy. Sorry never done scripting. Any help appreciated.

Everything between the
code
and
/code
tags, but not the tags themselves should be copied.
If you press the save button the script it will compile and you will get debug messages telling you what lines are in error. They can give helpful information on what's going on even for non-coders, which I consider myself to be.
I would make a new fresh script in your inventory, copy over it, save (watching for compile messages) then drag and drop into the object inventory. The script in the object will self delete once you tell it you are done rotating.
