I tried to make a sculptie with 3ds Max 5, but ran into a problem when I went to render to texture. Apparantly I found that that feature is broken if you have SP2 installed for XP.
Is there any way to get this to work without uninstalling SP2?

Most converters only run with Max9 or Max8 because they use features introduced with 8 and where made for 9, actual versions.
With Max5 you can still export it to Waveform.OBJ and use another tool to convert OBJ to PNG/JPG, like Blender.

I'm pretty sure that 3D Max 5 will work for it. I followed the tutorial that's available, and I was able to do everything except when it came to render to texture. I read around a bit and found that somehow SP2 causes an error in 3D Max 5, causing the render to texture feature to not work anymore. I couldn't find any fixes for 3D Max 5 myself, so I figured I'd ask here.
It's no biggie however, as I'm just using Wings 3D for now to make sculpties. I'm just not to fond of the interface, and I prefer 3D Max's interface a lot more.

Since Max 5 is about 7 years old now my guess would be that Autodesk never fixed the SP2 problem. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't hold my breath on there being a patch. You might try asking in the Area forums (Autodesk's forums for Max, Maya, etc.)
