I want to make an object that my avatar will wear. Making the object, i can do. But I don't really know how to fit it correctly to the avatars body. Is there a program I can download that will allow me to preview the way the object lays on the avatar? Or even a 3D image of the avatar that I can open in my graphics program?

Thank you!

You should just take it into inventory and then attach it to the body part you are making it for.

Get a pose stand and stand on it. Then you will be perfectly still and you can make adjustments to the object while on your body. You will need to do this eventually anyway in order to get it rotated into position to match the body part.

You don't need another program. You have the best program for making it fit correctly right in front of you - your Second Life viewer. After all, that is where you will be viewing it when you have it perfected.

I had the same thought a while ago, but gave it up as a bad idea. Even if you could do the sort of previewing you are asking for, I think you'd find that it is ten times more complicated than simply uploading the object and fitting it on yourself in SL.

You can download the avatar mesh as obj files from http://secondlife.com/community/avatar.php, but it won't be "your" avatar, with your avatar's size and shape. You'll still have to fit to yourself in SL. Why do the work twice?

i use a pose stand as well, i often make steampunk belts and other gear like that for my avatar. i use the delux pose stand found inside the mysti tool rezzer the good thing about using that is that you can put your av into different stands. Even after the object has been made it usually still needs a bit of tweeking on the avatars body so it looks good while moving (walking, changing stance ect.) usually just make the item a tad bigger fixes that.

if you don't have a stand there are many free ones available or you can simply select an animation from your invintory to play, you should have many static ones that are useable for this type of aplication.
