I've only had SL for about a week now and I'm just learning to make my own things right now. At the moment, I can do textures really well on clothing and skins..I bought a pair of flexi wings from a shop and they're lovely, but I'd like to build my own so I can put my own texture on them...Only thing is, I have no clue how to do it. Can anyone walk me through this?

Here's the (really) short answer:
1. Try making non-flexi wings first. Make a prim cube and attach it to your spine, then edit it to taste. Then learn to link multiple prims to make a pair of wings, attach THAT to your spine instead, and edit to taste.
2. Use the Flexible checkbox under Features. Play around with the parameters.
3. ...
4. Profit!
I'll leave elaboration to whoever else is interested... gotta sleep now. *yawn*
