help my prims are broken and i can't get up! THAT is a picture of 3 prims that should be perfectly aligned if you look at the numbers. Nothing funky going on in the numbers I'm using either... most should be on a single decimal point, not thousandths. and yet as you can see, the SL client is convinced there's all sorts of misalignment going on. any clues? others seeing this? this seems like a 1.8.x bug to me

yea, i know this kinda behaviour.
Sometimes, when you fill in the numbers manually, the pims doesnt move, only the 3 axis move place. Try undo-ing and redo-ing.

ah i should have said in my first post... it ain't the delay issue
i've relogged and I've re-entered numbers. I've done the various tricks we have to force the prim to show what it is supposed to.
nope, this is something else

Yep. Happens to me quite often. I figured this has already been bug reported. I punch the number in manually and it doesn't register with SL. What I do is after punching in the number I click the increment arrow up then down. Some reason the up/down arrow registers better than manually entering it does. I even tried pressing Enter but still happens at times.

Yeesh. I want to have a better understanding of this. Can someone please show me how to make this happen for myself, step-by-step? (Not an experienced builder here, please be gentle.)

this is hard to duplicate.
i just created an exact replica of those prims 1 meter below them with new prims and the exact same numbers and they are nicely seamless. It's like the prims above are convinced they are sizes or positions they are not.
i have tried relogging, drag-copy, click-zooming, the arrow number-enter keys, entering in major number changes and then bringing it back to the right position, using the grid, etc etc
at this point have replaced them with entirely new prims which work the way they are supposed to.
but i've still got the erroneous prims if you want to see them torley, i just lowered em a meter so i could continue working

I have the same problem and posted this some days back. People seem convinced that its some floating point error but I think it just came about recently. Its hard to repeat but I managed to do it once or twice on a pair of cubes. It seems to happen more likely on certain sides vis-a-vis another specific side of its neighbouring cube. And only after you grab the two and rotate them without linking. Its almost like the cubes get 'damaged' and are incorrectable by keying in values. I've had to rebuild things a few times to correct this. Some I've just left as-is on my build in Moneta, hoping that its just a figment of my imagination. I'm hoping its just a client side graphics glitch instead of something mathematically wrong happening on the server affecting every single prim on the SL planet.

torley swung by and we were examining it. In this case it looks like the prims drifted from 180 degrees x axis rotation to 180.05 and that might have been the culprit, although when i was trying to fix it i could swear i looked at rotation... but bah, i didn't screenshot the settings so it's hard to say.
thanks for the time torley

Forseti, you aren't going mad. I tried this again and its easily repeatable. There was even once when the value was auto rounded off to 180.5!
Do these simple steps to see how its causing it.
1. Rez 2 cubes and size them to 10x10x10. 2. Align them side by side using gridsnap. 3. Shift select them both. 4. Tumble / rotate them using the angle snap in all 3 axes. 5. Zoom in closely where they meet and inspect the four corners.
It only takes half a dozen tumbles before the errors come out. Most of the time, the edit panel won't show the error and using gridsnap can't rectify it. The only way to correct them is to rekey in all the 3 sets of parameters (position, size, rotation) to correct it.
This did happen before, but didn't appear that quickly and only happened with many many prims. It doesn't happen if the prims are linked, but constantly linking and unlinking walls during a build is a very cumbersome process.

I got Cotton's cubes and they look misaligned, alright--sent in a bug report about this. Specifically, the rotations for both cubes: X=0.00 Y=90.00 Z=270.00 Changing all back to 0 looks right again. Going back to these rotations introduces seams again, altho they look more subtle than the first time I rezzed the cubes, they're still noticeable. Everything else looks number-perfect for me.

From: Forseti Svarog help my prims are broken and i can't get up!
I think it's time for me to sleep. I read this as "help my prims are broken and I can't get IT up!" heh <edit> when you read it as not being able to get "it" up, then continue on to the other posts, it's quite hilarious. Immature yeah, but... damn fine entertainment.

I've had this same problem a few times in the past couple of weeks. Setting everything back to 0 worked for me too, but what a pain in the ass....

Yes this is an annoying bug. It is driving me nuts. I recently posted a big fat thank you because it appeared to have been fixed but it is back.
Thank you Torley for going and taking a look at it. I have an entire store where my stuff is just mis aligned and i can't get it fixed. THe more I try to correct, the more insane the rotation becomes. This has been happening for maybe a month (maybe less, maybe more). It was not always this way. I have been here for close to a year and have always used numerics to align objects perfectly.
hooray, for this finally being bug reported and looked into.
*crosses fingers*
