Exploring 3-D software, I encountered this: http://dryad.stanford.edu/faq.php

Any experience with it, anyone? And would it be possible to export to SL?

These trees can not directly be imported into Second Life, no.

The trees in that site are exportable as an .obj mesh. You could impot them from there into something like Bryce, Daz Studio, or Poser, and take rendered images of it from several angles. These images could be used to make simple two-prim or three-prim trees. But you can't re-create the 3D tree from this site as-is in Second Life.

Bryce and other applications can make similar trees directly, so if you have Bryce you could skip a step and simply make them with that starting point.

There is no way to create the equivilaent of the Linden one-prim trees, that seem far more three-dimensional. Those are created as static game resources, and there are no user tools that allow their creation.

I've just been playing Crysis in SLI. It's tree heaven.
