Recent Problem with Random Movement and Texture Change

The other day I was building a waterfall for a friend and in the middle of aligning rocks the rocks started attempting to align themselves. They would shift back and forth and eventually settle. Odd, I never saw that in my many months of building. Fast forward a couple days to another sim and now I am building a structure. Same thing. I create a new object, move it, and it starts shifting around.

After a frustrating build I am applying textures. I select an object with the default texture, go through textures to see what matches and it starts toggling back and forth between the various textures I previewed and settles on one at random.

I cannot find a reason for this in-world. Hopefully someone has seen this and can explain it to me. I will note that it started on Monday, before the last upgrade.

Shifty prims

Every time this had happened to me, It's been due to my Internet connection. At times my ISP was giving me trouble, I would receive the exact same symptoms you've described. I would move a prim, and a few seconds after starting it would warp back to the starting point and jerk around, usually not ending up at the final point I left it. At first I thought it could be lag, but has happened in both the mature sandbox and my home sim.

It's extremely frustrating, isn't it? :P Thankfully my Internet problems have cleared up since then, and I haven't seen that problem in a week or two.

I consistently have the problem with textures flipping back and forth, but only on linked objects and only when selecting different textures while Apply Immediately is checked. The solution I've found is to keep Apply Immediately turned off while I select a texture, and then turn it on when I've found the texture I want. If I want to change the texture again, first I turn off Apply Immediately, then I select a different texture, then I turn on Apply Immediately. In other words, for me at least, the problem is caused specifically by selecting various textures while in Apply Immediately mode.

Thanks for the info. I think there may be something to the ISP issue as I have tried the same thing on my notebook and have the same results.

I'm bumping this because now I have a new dillema related to this however it may also be ISP related.

I have modify rights on a house. I needed to shorten one of the railings. I go into Edit, select Edit linked objects and modify the size. Close edit and it works like a champ. The problem is when I leave the sim and come back, the railing is back to its original size. I'm going to look at my connection but would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have seen the same thing.

Thanks again.

Just as an extra comment, while I have had this happen to me before, it has been happening *all* the time since the last update, so it might be something new and not related to your connection at all.

Usually what is happening is that the update on your client is not the same as the update on the server, so you see the prim move to the new loacation/size etc., but the packet is lost on the way to the server. Thus the server sees the prim at the old location/size.

When you go back to the same spot, the server sends you what it thinks is the location/size (the wrong one from your point of view).

I have had the same problems at different times. I notice it a lot when I edit new hair, I spend quite a while getting it all how I want it and then I tp or relog and most of it is back where it was. Same goes for other things I edit, no rhyme or reason to it really and it's very frustrating.

I don't think it is ISP related, it seems to be happening alot since the last update. Last nite I also had trouble with trying to do repeats on textures...it wouldn't do any repeat changes.

Are you uploading / downloading something behind SL? This only happens to me when I have something big uploading and it always happens to me when I have something big uploading.

Don't blame recent updates. This goes back almost as long as I've been in SL but it only occurs when I'm choking my bandwidth.
