I just want to confirm something.

Sim boundaries are always at the following coordinates?

South boundary is 0.0
North boundary is 256.0
West boundary is 0.0
East boundary is 256.0

Am I correct???

All and any comments greatly appreciated.

You mean:
South 0,0
North 256,0
West 0,256
East 256,256

Yes, Random, you've got it right for the 'edges'.

The 4 Corners are:
SouthWest 0,0
NorthWest 256,0
SouthEast 0,256
NorthEast 256,256

Since east/west = X axis, and north/south = Y axis:

NW corner = 000,256 | NE corner = 256,256
--------------------------------------------------------
SW corner = 000,000 | SE corner = 256,000

and maybe the max is 255, since I believe 256 is the same as 0 for the next sim over.

Actually, the max value before "rolling over" to 0 would be 255.9999847412109375, the highest value < 256.0 expressible as a 32-bit float. In other words, the closest you can get to the northern or eastern border of a sim, and still remain in that sim, is 1/65536 of a meter.

My land is on the west border of a sim and I can place prims that extend right upto co-ordinate 0. Would I be able to make prims that extend to 256 if I were living on the eastern border of a sim?

If by that you mean, for example, could you place a 1m axis-aligned cube at the 255.5 mark, so that it's eastern edge was exactly at 256 (your sim coords) or 0 (eastern adjoining sim coords), then yes, the prim would still be wholly on your parcel. In fact, you could place it anywhere up to and including the maximum limit noted in my previous post, and it would still be considered as on your parcel, just overhanging into the next sim. Any farther, and it would be in the next sim, overhanging your parcel.

I can place a cube on a stand alone island at x = 255.999, but not 256.000!

See at Explorers Rangeland: 255.999, 0, 23.631

Edit: got returned about 3 hours later for being off world. Prim drift?????
