Left handed rings....

Hi, I've just started doing some building and scripting.

The ultimate question here: "What does it take to make a left handed ring ?"

For practice, I figured I'd make something like a magic ring - put particle effects on it, use it as a container for future scripts / animation overrides, etc - sort of a "portable test bed" for other products.

Well...... my first experience, and I learned that there is a difference between a left and a right handed ring.

1. I can't "attach" the ring to the left hand. Simply won't work.
2. "Wear" puts it on the right hand.

The ring is 4 prims (yes, big and bulky - but it's a test device, not jewelry). I did try simply bands as well to see if I could get a left handed ring - nothing.

Only stock textures being used, no uploads. Only test script I have right now does particle effects, nothing else (and the band I tested with earlier didn't even have that).

I have a ring made by another player that is the opposite - it only goes on the left hand, never the right !!! It's similiar to mine (4 prims or so), so I've compared the two, and the only difference is they used textures and I didn't. :).

So what does it take to make a left handed ring ? I'm left handed in RL and feel somewhat discriminated LOL :). And while I'm at it - can anyone post a link to the "rules of attachement points for builders" ? I haven't been able to find anything about building left handed rings via google (word "ring" is far too common).

Thanks, folks - any help is appreciated.

The right hand is the default attachment point. To attach it to the left hand, if the item is in inventory, right-click -> Attach -> left hand; if the item is rezzed, right-click -> More -> Attach -> left hand. Sometimes the system can be *very* slow in acknowledging such a request. Also if the item is small, it can end up (half-)embedded in the palm and it will look as if nothing has been attached. What way did you try that didn't work?

Attachment points (along with many other things) are broken right now. From what I understand, it does work if you rez the item in world, but not from inventory. (Sorry, I can't double check this at the moment, as I can't even get in world without crashing.) There is no difference at all between left and right handed rings. They are just prims, and you can move them from one hand to the other and reposition them at will. As Jackal said though, it might be hard to see where they ended up if they are tiny. You might have to move them up from the hand so they appear over it and you can see them when you switch hands.

Before this last update, I was able to make rings and position them on either hand. As a previous poster started, the "attach" option broke in this last release, and that is why you can't do it now. Only the default positions for items as assigned by 'wear' is working at the moment. It should get fixed in one of the upcoming bug fix patches. I hope...

I did try the click "Attach -> Left Hand", got no results.

I only waited half a minute or so though. The other ring I had attached instantly to the left hand, strangely.

I'll try by rezing it to the world and see if I can attach it that way.

Interesting to see that attachements got broken..... I hope this patch is exceptional for breakages rather than the norm. No offense or complaint meant, I'm very new here and a patch like the Sept 13th is terrifying and discourages playing :( .

Nice to know it wasn't me, though - I was going crazy trying to figure out what I was doing wrong LOL !

Sometimes it takes wearing another prim to the left hand, take it off, and then try putting on the prim you want to wear. Shoes was an issue for me the last few days. I had to try on several pair just to get the pair I wanted to wear, attached.
