Hey all,
I'm trying to get a feel for what kinds of games you would like to see in Second Life. One of the coolest things about SL is it has the potential to be the ultimate modifiable game software, and you should be able to recreate virtually any genre. The fact that it is a scalable massively multiplier environment only increases the potential.
Over the next few weeks, I will be working on how to incorporate more gaming into the world. So let us know what kind of games you want to play, or to make, or even just to watch and bet on the ponies.

Now there's an idea Ben...a horse race. Maybe someone could come up with a better idea than mine...in fact, I'm sure they could! How's about one of those horse races where a roll of the dice moves a horse forward? I've seen them in the "pretend" charity gambling parties but it might be fun. A board for the track... a few horses, some creative names and descriptions...and the race is on! If anyone would like to help me with scripting a random dice roll, I could come up with the rest. Hey, I'm trying...I don't have much to offer in world, but I'd be willing to give this a shot! mc

I'd like to see gameshows that we can attend and even play in. I have started building a Wheel of Fortune set, but, its getting very complex. Speaking of wheels, I would love to have a working ferris wheel that we can all ride. 2 people per hanging car, 10 minute rides, $5 a person Maybe at the boardwalk?

There is a horse race game (unsure if functional) at the boardwalk I would love to see if you could speed up the casino slot machines though! They are really awesome but they are just too slow to actually play them. For some reason I could not get the roulette table to work either even though the note card said it was functional. It would be really cool if we could get a GIANT sized checkerboard.

How about a "living" chess match?
Could be populated by both Av's as well as objects to ensure enough "player pieces".

I think that Musical Chairs would be fun to watch, but maybe infuriating to play.

I think a racing game would be great. I was thinking of making a 3D course that people would fly through once I finished my garden.

obvious!!

So I'm trying to think of realistic games we could play here, there seem to be two types. First are carnival games. I'd like to see skeeball (requires gravity to work on objects, uh oh!) one of those games where you hold a cannon and it shoots out balls at bugs or people that are propped(sp?) up on a board (you should know what I'm talking about) maybe one of those water squirting games where you have to aim the gun at the target and a thing on a slider slides upward to hit a bell. I dunno, most of this stuff has gravity as an element of its gameplay in real life, so I guess I'm basically asking you add gravity and ground collision handling for objects Secondly, people games seem to be popping up (tag, musical chairs) so what I suggest is a SCAVENGER hunt! Infact I think I might just host one soon cuz I can get so damn bored I'll just go around to random squares and place a few copyable objects (and hope nobody cheats!). It should be rather fun (but I need prizes first... nobody seems to want my sweet Matrix 2 wallpapers ) Also maybe a game of capture the flag, but that might be slightly impossible with all the flying and the fact you can hide things in the ground haha. Oh and one last thing. Would a deck of cards be so impossible? (I guess so seeing as how it requires collision, gravity, and the fact that a deck would probably be as high as the average avatar lol)

yeah i didn't know about it until after i made all those posts asking for it lol. FYI I'm making a game I'd like to call "Avatar Archery" or "Avarchy" (working name, may change) whereas your avatar sits on a rocket, and you have to guess the coordinate numbers to correctly traject you into point rings that will be floating in the air around you. Should be lots of fun But might need more space

"LINDO" like bingo only better
02-07-2003 15:45
Hello Ben, Here is my game idea: I would love to help you create and host "LINDO" I think it would be great for people to play because it would be in a relaxed atmosphere where they can chat with friends while playing the game and win prizes. I have a wonderful place that the game could be played (see screenshot) http://www.twistedboy.com/images/LINDO.jpgHere is a possible game card: http://www.twistedboy.com/images/LINDO_Card.gifI would be willing to help script, model and host the game. Thanks for a wonderful world, Sinatra Cartier

Heres a idea
02-16-2003 12:02
How about classic board games (monopoly, life, battle ship) but so that are huge, like that chess idea. So you'd be driving the car to the next space, controlling the missle that smashes into the battleship, and moving ur av instead of the shoe lol.

PLINKO!!!
02-16-2003 13:01
OK I gave up on the avatar archery game (seems like too much space was needed) so instead I've built, that's right, Plinko! Everyone's favorite Price is Right game is now in Second Life!!! Here's the idea. The plinko chip drops down the board of pegs, and then it will land in one of 9 spaces. Those spaces contain either $0, $1, $5, $20, $50. You pay $10 for every plinko chip, and you can buy up to 5. Initially I want to make it so that everyone could buy a lotto ticket for $10, and you could buy a max of 5 tickets. The amount of tickets you had if you won would equal the amount of plinko chips you get to play with. Things I might change, if you think it'd be a good idea: Add a 0 to the end of every dollar amount. That includes the 0, making 00, 10, 50, 200, 500. Of course the chips would cost $100 each too I think I've already changed my mind about the lottery thing. Instead, I'll just have a "plinko event" where everyone can play, but you still have to purchase chips. Only one game per person though, sorry If anyone would like to help me finish construction and perhaps give me pointers on better ways to get the chips into the slots (this physics stuff can go out of whack sometimes) just hang Minna at the location in my profile.
