Found something today that should help people who have wanted to try making sculpties on a Mac, with DAZ Hexagon, but have found the app didn't seem to work right.

It appears there is a bug in DAZ Hexagon 2.5 that affects Mac OSX 10.5.x and 10.6.x. What happens is that any sort of keyboard input or input to the floating dialog panes for prim parameters and the like disables selecting in the operating views. The operating windows where you select faces, edges and vertices lose focus, and never regain it.

The work-around involves dragging three detachable windows (Properties, Scene and Dynamic Geometry) OUTSIDE the frame of the application, to the right, and setting the option for a customized interface (Window Menu, and check "Customize";), so it remembers these window positions.

The exact details are on the DAZ Forums, in the hexagon forum. The work-around was only recently posted there.

Hopefully this information on the work-around will eliminate much frustration among Mac owners trying to learn Hexagon for making sculpties in SL. It doesn't solve all the issues, and sometimes you still need to save and quit and re-launch the file. But it makes it at least somewhat usable.

Further update:

It appears this glitch only affectes the newer Intel CPU based Macs. The older PPC CPU Macs are not affected.

In the DAZ Forums, there was a therad that indicated a Mac update is finally under way. Still in closed Beta (which I am not part of), but the developer in the thread indicated they were aware that a large part of the problem was because the source code for Mac was not a Universal Binary, and the PPC code had to be run through a converter to attempt to make it work on Intel CPU Macs. The new release will be a Universal Binary.

Meanwhile, I've switched to using a Wintel system to learn Hexagon, because the Mac work-arounds just don't cut it.
