Hello all, Thank you for taking the time to read... I have made what I think its a fantastic sofa set. I have some great poseballs that have really good sitting animations from Bit and Bobs. I have edited the poseball position so the seat looks normal and I am not sinking into the furniture or anything, but when I get off from sitting the poseballs are sitting so high above the sofa and well it just looks ridiculous. I can hide and show them, but if I want to go on to sell what I make, will customers know to how to hide and show them? I did not know for the longest time..*blushes* or is there a way that I can sort of lower them without the position when sat to change? I hope I am making sense I am very new to all of this! Thanks for any help

You can put the sit scripts in the seat cushions but it takes take a little more fiddling around. You can also just lower the pose balls to the position that looks good to you and then adjust the llSitTarget.

How to embed 'sit' poses into an object?
09-02-2007 11:15
Hi Can anyone elaborate on the last post and describe exactly how to embed a sit pose into an object without the need for a pose ball? I don't mind the fiddling around that may be necessary!. Hmm, and if you have a script or can refer me to one, so much the better, Than you in anticipation!
Frankie.

You could also use the sofa texture on the poseballs themselves...also looks nice. For placing the anims in the cushions, try Learjeff's sit target helper, it's great and free. http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=318690

I also teach a class on how to edit the sit position yourself if you want to learn how it works.
We build an armchair and then edit the sit position. It is free and it does give you the skills you need to edit the script for all animations like sleep and couches, etc. as well as in pose balls. Just look in Search/Events/Education. I will probably run it again sometime during the week of Sept. 10th.

The sit target helper stuff is great. I made a two prim sofa with two sits in it using the old version. If you want something that gives a visual clue to where to sit (like the usual pink/blue couples stuff) you can at least place the poseballs somewhere less ugly, or even use decorative prims of other shapes.

Hiya
if you have modify rights to the poseball script, you can open the script and play around with the offsets to lower the ball and how far you sit from it ect.
If you don't have mod rights on the script your using, visit the scripting library, theres a free poseball script in there which will give you the rights to modify.
Take care Nat

Oh btw, if the above doesn't work for you (depending on the animation/pose it may or may not) a technique i use is to link the ball to the furniture and then edit linked parts and turn the ball transparent. when the customer sits on the couch it will automatically sit them on the ball.
This however doesn't work if you have more then one ball linked to the furniture, in which case I usually turn the ball the same colour as the furniture allowing the customer to right click whicheva ball they prefer.

Incidentally, there is a functional reason why most furniture makers use an extra prim for a pose ball, rather than embedding the same script in the seat prim of a chair or couch. The seperate pose ball is FAR easier for the end-user to adjust to fit their avatar size.
Case in point. I sell a 1-prim kneeling cushion, with a Japanese-style sit animation and a pose ball script in the cushion prim. As sold, it works fine... if your avatar is roughly the default height.
If a very tall avatar (7 feet tall or so) uses the same cushion, his legs are embedded in the floor.
If a very short avatar (4 feet tall or so) uses the same cushion, she is levitating above the cushion.
Either condition can be corrected, but requires editing the pose script to adjust the sit target. Not a trivial thing to do, if you don't know LSL scripting.
By adding a second prim, and putting the pose script in that prim, editing the sit position is bmerely a matter of editing the pose ball position while you're sitting on it.

Back on topic, you can also move the origin of a sit pose by creating a second pose of equal or greater priority, with only the hips changed. If this "adjustment" pose is played after the main pose, it will change only the location and rotation of the hips while leaving the rest of the pose intact. You may need to experiment some to approximate the same rotation, but the offset can be changed up to 5 meters from the avatar's origin. This will give you a new visual location without changing the sit target, and allow all the other joints to be set by the underlying animation.
