I have a few things in my inventory that are single objects, but when rezzed in world they are actually multiple unlinked prims. I would really like to learn how this is done.

An Example
I recently purchased a coffin from a shop. In my inventory screen it appears as many little blocks in a stack, not a solid block like most prim items look. When the coffin is rezzed in world it is actally 3 sepearte item, completely unlinked. The box part is one item that is 10 prims. Then there are 2 lid sections, both are 3 prims.

I understand the lids are not linked to each other, or the box section, due to the scripts that open the lids. What i dont understand is how 3 unlinked objects can be saved as one item.

any help on this would be AWESOME

Rez your objects, select them all by editing one of them and then shift+clicking on the others, and take them into inventory.

You can also drag a box around your objects to select them all at once. Keep in mind that smaller objects are affected by distance and may not be selected, depending.

Although it's useful to check "limit select distance" and "select only my objects" before doing this :)

I find that transparent objects may not be selected by the drag-a-box method unless you have Highlight Transparent (CTRL+ALT+T) turned on.

Beware of things like https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-11025.

Coalesced objects can be really useful but, last I heard, it's a sure-fire way of losing inventory when it doesn't work right..

My house

Does this work with a house? I want to move mine up and over.
Is there a way to link the house and it's contents, and move it that way?

It works that way with anything. SL doesn't know whether your coelesced object is a house or a cherry pie. It's just a mess of prims picked up and treated as a unit but not linked. The big challenge with coalescing something as large as a house is that it's very easy to miss selecting some small prims, simply because they're too small to show up when you drag a box around the whole house. Still, it's done all the time.

If you'd rather link the whole house and move it that way, that's fine too. Just remember that you have to stay within SL's distance limits. If your house is too large, you won't be able to link all of its parts, so you'll have to do it in two or more chunks. Then your challenge is to fit the chunks together properly when you're reassembling them later. That's not a difficult challenge or an uncommon one, but it's daunting the first few times you try it.

Note: There's also a limit of 256 linked prims.
