Hi all, I am hoping to build a fully-operational large planetarium in Second Life. However, I can't get a sphere over 10m. I see in the NOAA island a 40m sphere. How is this accomplished? -Thanks

I saw a tool called ShapeGen that makes large spheres out of prims, but I have not used it personally. The tool is pretty inexpensive though, so it's probably worth a try!

ShapeGen is a great tool. It makes custom spheres and rings in full or partial form. Although, the prim count really cranks up depending on how big or how many segments you set the tool to auto-rezz.

The other option is using huge prims (also called mega prims). You can't create them like you would regular prims, you have to copy them from a set in your inventory. To get these prims, you can join the 'Huge Prims (Oversized) Distribution' group and ask users for a set. I know there is a 40m x 40m x 40m huge prim in that set and is most likely the one you saw on the NOAA island.

Just so you know, you can modify everything on a huge prim with the exception of it's length, width and height. If you want to know why that is, you can search for "huge prim" or "mega prim" on the history and the origins of these ancient relics.

I also highly recommend ShapeGen, excellent tool for rings and Spheres, it is also modifiable to make you prims 'owned'.

Megaprims are cool just make sure they are not physical and set to phantom or look out for serious lag.
