Can someone be seen inside a glass tube or pipe?

Hi. My friend is making a chocolate room like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) in Second Life. She has a animated column she made. It is a long pipe that looks like chocolate is going up it. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a greedy boy falls into a chocolate river and gets sucked up a glass pipe. We wanted to know if it is possible to have a glass pipe where a second life character could be seen inside it. Thank you.

Sure is. Just make the pipe a hollow cylinder prim, and make it transparent. You'll see any avatar inside just as you would behind any window.

For your special effect, consider a "sit elevator" script (Search the scripting tips forum for those) and make the elevator platform with a cylinder prim topped by a flattened hemisphere. An avatar who sits on the elevator prim could then be seen being driven up the tube by the surge of "Chocolate" under them. You could also specify an animation to keep their arms close to their sides, like they were jammed inside the pipe.

(EDIT)
I remember that scene. Agustus Gloop was the kid, as I recall... The hard part would be making it look like he was barely able to fit inside that pipe. He was plugging it for a bit, after it sucked him out of the chocolate river.

You might want to make a texture for the outside of a cylindrical plug, so it looks like the kid pressed against the tightly-enclosed glass, and then run that plug up the inside of the transparent pipe.

I would also play around with making the cylinder hollow, then making the outside of the cylinder transparent, but make the inside face of the cylinder a chocolatey brown texture. That can be quite a nice effect sometimes.

Other than just making it "transparant" .... you might try making a good looking glass texture in Photoshop. Put the reflections and dimples in the texture and then save it with an alpha channel set at 50% gray for the entire texture. Save as 32-bit TGA

When you get it in world, you'll get a semi-transparant glass texture. If it's not transparant enough, you can adjust the transparancy of the texture on the prim, or go back to the original texture in Photoshop and tweak your alpha channel gray level.
