I'm currently in the process of building a free "sculpty library" of images for use in Prim.Blender. This of course begs the question: What "default" sculpty shapes (eg, rounded cube, perfect cube, hemisphere, etc.) would you most like to see implemented?
If not just by me, then by other sculpty toolmakers, and also by Linden Lab in the Library section, if they would. Feel free to post suggestions. Bonus points for posting image files for use by free toolmakers.

Jeffrey, once again let me take this opportunity to express my admiration for you. You seem never to hesitate to undertake very difficult tasks, always for the benefit of the community. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you're awesome.
Here are a few things I can think of off the top of my head that people would probably find useful:
round-corner versions of all existing hard-edged prims (cube, cylinder, prism, tube, ring) various degrees of taper for all of the above square tube (I can't believe this was never added as a prim) various types of arches ladder hourglass jewels letters, numbers, and punctuation marks
I'm sure there are plenty more that I'm not thinking of right now. When I get some time, I'll contribute some map images to the cause.

How do you make a ladder out of a sculptie?

From: Johan Durant How do you make a ladder out of a sculptie? You have to use one of the programs that does actual vertex position reporting like Blender or Wings, not the surface sampling that the Maya exporter does (I really wish someone would add a vertex reporter option to the Maya one). Basically, you "pinch" the mesh in a few places, to reduce some of the polygons to zero size. At that point, in wireframe, you've essentially got a bunch of sectional pieces, connected by thin strings. Since the strings have no with or depth, they won't be rendered in SL in shaded view. Shape and positoon two of the parts to be the struts, and then shape and position the remaining ones to be the rungs.

Good suggestions so far. From: Chosen Few Jeffrey, once again let me take this opportunity to express my admiration for you. You seem never to hesitate to undertake very difficult tasks, always for the benefit of the community. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you're awesome. In this specific case, there's no need to thank me. I just implement what other people suggest and give to me. This idea was suggested by another (to whom I've linked this thread), and prompted in part by Domino's hemisphere patch. I appreciate the sentiment, though.

From: Chosen Few round-corner versions of all existing hard-edged prims (cube, cylinder, prism, tube, ring) I'm keeping an eye on http://projects.blender.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=11708&group_id=9&atid=125 as when this bug is fixed, rounded edges will be a lot easier to add to any Blender sculptie. From: Jeffery Gomez What "default" sculpty shapes (eg, rounded cube, perfect cube, hemisphere, etc.) would you most like to see implemented? If any of the suggestions would be better implemented via maths rather than an image map I'll look at adding them to my scripts. I've avoided the image map approach as I figure most people will have very different needs for their defaults and would build their own library of starting shapes to import. I think I need to do a demo of adjusting the face distribution by editing the UV map sooner rather than later as that is another useful technique for getting to a starting shape quickly.

Not quite: the word we're looking for here is "chamfered". Anyhow, that soulds like a really great collection. From: Johan Durant How do you make a ladder out of a sculptie? This was never really confusing to me; it's easy to comprehend when you allow the mesh to stretch into a very elongated shape that's free to go back through the same space twice.

From: Wavie Haller some default shapes for clothing designers would be a big help i think. maybe a shoe shape and a shirt collar. Oh, yes...here is my wish list...some good wrist cuffs, hats also come to mind..as do some exotic shapes for adornment like flowers. Maybe a couple of chair seats (i.e. top and bottom in one piece). Not experienced enough to make much of a contribution here.

Bonus points for posting image files for use by free toolmakers. I think if you search SLX, you will get an idea of what is useful. There are already a handful of full-perm sculpty packs--have a look at those, and then perhaps you can build off those concepts. * Chamfer boxes of all shapes * Cushions * Dress shapes * Shoes & Boots * Wheels * Stairs * Rocks * Dirt/Earth * Flowers, Plants, Pedals, Trees, Trunks * Chimneys * Animal Shapes * Dishes, Utensils, Glasses/Cups * Saddles for horses * Bras * Hats Those are some great sculpty pack ideas--many of them are already being created. Good luck.

From: Domino Marama I've avoided the image map approach as I figure most people will have very different needs for their defaults and would build their own library of starting shapes to import. Part of what I intend to provide is a directory that users may add or subtract their defaults from. When the tool is loaded, all of these entries are then added to the "Sculpt Type" section.
