Silly question....are there any "devices" acting as "cookie cutter" type implements in SL? ie, for the less gifted, it would be great to rez a prim, stretch it, and then use a "star cutter" to get that perfect shape? Im sure there aren't....just wishing..:))

What you're asking for, essentially, is what are known as boolean subtraction tools. Tools like this work by subtracting the shape of one object from the shape of another. The end result can be described as "cookie-cutting".

Boolean tools are common in standard 3D modeling applications like Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, etc, but they don't and can't exist in SL since the inworld modeling system is entirely additive. There's no such thing as subtraction. Even cutting & hollowing can still be considered additions, not subtractions. When you hollow a sphere, for example, you're not carving out the middle; you're adding to the "hollowness" attribute. When you dimple it, you're not actually cutting a hole; you're just changing where certain verticies are.

There are some resident-made scripted tools that can produce the end-results you're looking for though, just not in the way you had in mind. You can't rez a cube and cut it into a star, but you can script a tool to make a star out of a group of cubes or prisms. I'm not sure anyone has made a "star-maker" perse, but the Xy Tool, and Cadroe Murphy's Shapemaker & Ringmaker are a couple of good examples of the principle.
