Hello! I bought a fairly large, modifiable home and in the process of making some changes I inadvertently unlinked the whole structure—(after trying to unlink just the section I wanted to delete, errr). Unlinking the home made it a lot easier to modify but I’m worried that by leaving it in pieces like this I might experience problems with prims getting out of alignment somehow. I may also want to move one day and obviously moving 500 pieces one by one isn’t an option.
Is there a tool or a technique that people use to link several hundred prims together accurately? I’ve tried to select the structure by drawing a selection box in edit mode but I can’t seem to get all the prims within the box—some of them highlight and some don’t. Also, I find that I end up selecting not just the prims in the building, but the trees and plants behind the building as well. lol. The structure came in three large linked pieces so I assume there is an easy way to do this. I realize I won’t be able to link the entire building together since it’s so big -- but bigger, more manageable pieces would be great.

I think that you can only link up to 256 prims.
As for selecting only your objects, go to Tools and click on Select on my objects.

If it is modifyable it might also be copyable, so you might have an original copy in your inventory. If you rez that in a sandbox you can see how the pieces were originally linked.

Thanks Sue and Ed44, I do in fact have an original copy in my inventory as well as a copy I made with some of my changes. From looking at the original, it appears the house was linked in three large sections. I can't get that many pieces to link together myself without an error message saying the prims are too far apart -- so I might use someting I found called "Rez-Faux" which I might get. It seems the prims slip a little every day--but it might just be my imagination.

Linking a large building

Hi Plato, I dont know for sure what you have but i bet that your building is packaged already with a rezzing system such as rezzfaux or jack in the box. Either of those 2 systems are very good and indespensible for placing and positioning large linked sets of prims. Those systems also remember how the linked sets are positioned relative to the other linked sets. Also when the building is rezzed from inventory the linking scripts get removed after the building is frozen in place. Pretty cool tools for anyone with big modifiable linked sets of prims. I have even packaged a house with over 100 prims with Jack in the box. It makes for an impressive show when the house is rezzed. Good luck! IM me if you still have problems.

You can also select the whole build and take it into your inventory. It while show up in your inventory as one object. You can then just the building out of your inventory and select the whole thing to make minor moves. But the rezzers like "Rez-Faux" and Building Buddy are the better way to go.
