OK, I've been beating my head again my monitor for a day or so and before I suffer brain damage, I'm going to ask a stupid newbie builder question... Yes, I have done searches and tried and tried to build what I want, but these primitives are giving me migraines.

The question is: how do I build a box with a sloped top? Or a right triangle? I am building a house with a sloped roof and am trying to match the side walls to the roof angle. Please, please tell me I'm stupid and there's an easy answer, you'd make my day. :)

BTW, I am an architect in RL and do use 3D modeling software, so I am spoiled; but the lack of tools in Lindenland has me frustrated.

Like I said, humor me...

I'm not quite sure what you are asking but I would usually use shear to slope side to side and taper to create a pyramid effect.

Or if it is the angle then plugging numbers into the rotation boxes to set the wall at an angle.

Can you say more about what you are trying to do?

Thanks for asking Dnali...

I am building a sloped roof, say 30 degrees from r to left. My walls are rising to meet that slope and of course not meeting the angle. I need to either slope the top of the prim (not possible?) or create a right triangle (90 degrees at base) to top the wall and infill the space.

Does this help, or shall I attach an image? Thx...

Use a combination of taper and shear, and then rotate the prim 90 degrees.

For example, do a taper of 0.20, and a top shear of 0.10, then rotate the prim 90 degrees on Y, and you'll have a prim with a sloping top. Just keep the shear at 1/2 the value of the taper.

You could also path cut a cube.

On the humor side, I was once asked what I would do if I saw another guy in bed with my wife, I said that I would shoot his guide dog.

There are two ways you could go, Tobias. First, you could do as Ceera said, wall so that the "top" becomes a "side", and then taper and shear that side to turn it from a rectangle into a right trapezoid. This will work as long as the wall does not need to be more than 10 meters tall.

The other option is simply to use 2 prims per wall. Keep the lower of the two as a rectangle. Taper/shear the upper one so that it forms a right triangle. If you taper a rectangle by 100%, and you get a triangle. Shear it by 50%, and you get a right triangle.

EDIT: As Snowman pointed out, if you'd rather use cuts instead of tapers & shears, that's an option as well. Rotate each cube so that the "top" and "bottom" become the "inside" and "outside" of the walls.

Hi Tobias, welcome to the forums. Ceera & Chosen's answers are gold (they always are). I just wanted to mention that if you haven't already, you might want to check out an inexpensive little tool called the Prim Finder, at Crystal Gadgets.

It is like a prim torture cheat sheat, displaying a bunch of prims with different cuts, sheers, twists etc. already done. Find the shape you want and hit the "Rez" button, and it rezzes the shape for you to work with.

Thanks, guys... I was on the right track, but haven't figured the shear/taper out yet. This helps a lot. I will go now to check out Prim Helper... using PrimDocker already really helps the alignment headaches. I'm having a great time in SL..

Thanks for your helps, :))
