Hey guys,is there anyway possible to make silent stairs? When i say 'silent' i mean without the *donk,donk,donk* as you take each step lol.
I'm using copy selection to build them doing the back face,then top face,then back face ect and deleting those underneath that i do not want once complete.
Each step is 0.346 tall,having to go up a height of 5.200 = 15 steps. Could this be my problem? Is that just to tall for an avie to walk up in peace and if so,whats the ideal height for each step? Or even better,is there a script i could add into the steps the make them silent? I'm personally not under any prim restrictions,but this house will be on sale so those that buy possibly could be.
I can't stand the noise,its driving me insane. Hopefully others have experienced what i'm talking about and have a easy fix. Many thanks.

Put an invisible ramp over the stairs. That's the only solution I've ever found that works. Unfortunately, decreasing your step size won't work. I've had that collision sound trigger by having floor panels misaligned by as little as .01M. Ramps work nicely.

This is one of my pet peeves in SL... especially when running up stairs, it gets sooo annoying. And the collision particles too, it makes you look like you're intent on destroying the stairs with all those sparks, when all you wanna do is climb. Here give this a spin... make a new script in a test stairstep, and paste this in: default { state_entry() { llCollisionSound("",0); } } (If you can link all the stairs together, you only need put this in the parent prim.) THEN RAM INTO IT REPEATEDLY!!!

EDIT: damn - gotta learn to type faster - there were no answers when I started, but by the time I posted the problem was solved! My stairs are not noisy (well, not that I noticed) but climbing up does make my av appear to struggle. I am planning on adding a completely transparent ramp at the level of the stairs to help the av "cheat". Maybe this will help with your sound as well?

From: Chosen Few Cool, Torley. This is great. No more need for ramps. Thanks. You're most graciously welcome, Chosen. There is still a benefit to using ramps sometimes because of, as Ben pointed out, the inherent smoothness, but some stairs I've seen can get rather elaborate and harder to "shadow" with ramps. Ah... who knew climbing stairs could be such an ordeal. And yet, we can FLY!

From: Torley Torgeson default { state_entry() { llCollisionSound("",0); } } For no collision particles you would use something like this... default { state_entry() { llCollisionSprite(""); } }

According to the LSL Wiki page for llCollisionSound(), setting the volume to zero will also disable the collision sprites. No need for a separate call to llCollisionSprite().

It may be fixed now, for a while it was acting up so I would always use them both together.

I can't wait to see when you start busting out some script-fu! The grid will do that crazy wave stuff like from that one scene in the matrix with you at the epicenter!

good gawd, how ....
Boring!,lol . I went to a palace that actually had a nice clicking walk sound to simulate the sound of walking on marble whilst asscending the stairs. It was very cool. have you ever thought of trying it? it's very simple to impliment.
