I have some ideas for objects that will require small amounts of smoke (incense) and candleflame. I'm not sure how to make these. I guess it requires scripting? Are there any basic scripts available to start from? Or tutorials for these types of scripts?

Also, I'm having trouble with the whole flexi thing. I tried to make a small prim flexible -- looking to make a candleflame -- but I could not make it flexible. Is that size dependent? how come some prims allow the flexible option while others do not? I could not figure out what the problem was...

I cannot help you with the scripting (not my forte'), but you may check out the scripting forum. I do have a flame script and an animated flame that I can give you if you contact me inworld.

On the flexi.... there are only a few flexi prims: cube, cylinder and prism.

Best,

oh, that explains the flexi thing. I think I was trying it on a sphere ...

Silly Zizonus ;)

Don't worry...I'm still trying to convince the torus that it wants to be flexi!

I've made a few nice smoke tendrils with some lightly mangled sliced torus prims by adding a script that sets llTargetOmega (prim rotation) and llSetTextureAnim() (scrolling textures). If you have the right wispy texture you can get some nice curl effects.

You'll have to adjust the rotation of the texture to make sure it's 'flowing' the correct direction...

The below is done from memory and may have errors or bad tuning.

CODE

default {
state_entry() {
llTargetOmega( <0,0,0.1>, 1.0, 1.0 );
// llTargetOmega(axis, speed, useless)
llSetTexureAnim( ANIM_ON | SMOOTH, ALL_SIDES, 1, 1,
0.0, 1.0, 0.1 );
// ( opts, sides, xframes, yframes, start, end, speed )
}
}
