Welcome to the exciting world of software development.

You should back up like you vote in Chicago: early and often. Make intermediate copies. Log out and back in to make sure client changes (of whatever kind) are flushed.

Copy to inventory and make copies around you as you work. SL development isn't like software development, it is, but it's not necessarily obvious that that is the case. It would be nice to see Linden take the next steps by integrating real editors, source control, debuggers, etc.

Perhaps when/if Mono comes to pass...

Ack, that sucks LaZy. I remember I built a house without saving it and this happened. I feel you on this one. Best advice I can give you is to take copies every so often and name them with numbers (such as 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc.) after the name, then you can keep track of what changes you make. After you're done, you can delete them all but the final, or keep them if you want to easily undo something you did. Hope this helps! :)

I'm done

You know what? I'm tired of the bizarre problems and tricksy interface. I was trying to correct the positioning of a pair of sunglasses tht someone gave me, and the interface wouldn't let me change the base positioning. So I said, fuck it, I'll make my own.

Well, first I'm doing rotations and the numbers are changing out from under me. Turn it 45 degrees on X? No, no, we've decided that's really 135 degrees in Z.

Then when I stick it to my eyeball to get an idea of how to place it, it changes all the rotations! Now it's 180 in y, and everything else is at 0.

Then, while I'm trying to correct that bizarreness, the rotation ball changes axes in the middle of what I'm doing.

The last straw was when I tried to copy it to move to the other eye, planning on getting that set up, link them, and then attach them to my nose, and set up the positioning there.

Oh, no, you can't possibly means that. No object copy for you. Just a dumb sound and no explanation.

Fuck it. I got more done in the first half hour of playing with AutoCad 10 than I ever got playing with this stupid editor.

And you know, given the lagginess of SL even when there aren't that many people, and the fact that there isn't much to do that doesn't involve casinos or dancing, I can't really see why SL would be fun unless I can build stuff, which clearly I'm not allowed to do.
