I'm not sure if this should come under building, texturing or animations but can anyone tell me how i create waves in the ocean in front of my land please?

Many thanks

Stand next to the water... raise your right hand... and move it from side to side? :)

The waves I've seen appear to be nothing more than a long phantom cylinder (flattened maybe) with rotating texture (probably default water texture from library). Cut cylinder in half to prevent waves under water and throw in a sound file.

Ok I will try the waving hands first lol.

Seriously I have found some for sale, may be the easy route :)

Thanks

Not that I've paid that much attention. . .but the ones I've looked at seem to be sculpted tori with a back and forth texture animation. There are some nice ones that change the action of the water according to the time of day.

Surfable waves appear to actually be prims scripted to move from offshore onto the beach. I've watched their progress on the mini map. They're darn expensive too!

You'd be better off buying some premade. It's pretty difficult to build your own (nice waves I mean) and they require several scripts..ugh! They have different ones at the Bora Bora Island. Different prices too... enjoy!
