When I set permissions on an item I'm selling there are three check boxes at the bottom: "Next owner can: Modify, Copy, Resell/Give Away" I want to allow the next owner to Modify, but not Copy or Resell/Give Away. However, when I remove the check from Copy, the Resell/Give Away can NOT be unchecked. It's checked and grayed over. If I place a check mark in Copy, I can then remove the one in Resell/Give Away. Why can't I prohibit both Copy and Resell/Give Away?

The way it is set up is that you can Either set it No Transfer or Transfer. Generally if it is set to
Transfer most people set their products to No Copy. That way they only have one copy of the
Item. Allowing people to give away or resell their one copy of an item is thought to be fair.
When a person buys something you want to give them some sense of personal ownership.
Even though the rights of that ownership are actually limited by copyright law.
The creator gives any permissions on all creations in accordance with copyright law.

To make the item No Copy/ No Transfer means they would only have one copy with no ability to give it away. Sometimes things disapear in the database so it is handy for an owner
to be able to have multiple copies in their inventory.

I am not exactly sure of the logic LL used in setting it up this way except perhaps in an interest of fairness to the buyer. I did see one time in the forums here a guy had a script
that allowed for setting no perms at all, you may be able to find it in search.

In reference to the above there is an exception which texture creators have long been
wanting LL to address is the the neccessity having to set textures to full perm in order that they are fully functional to the buyers in SL.

Non prim based images are or course governed by international copyright law. By default
buyers are resricted to those laws with the exceptions coming in the form of express
permissions by the creator. In SL this generally translates to buyers being able to sell the texture only after using it on prims. :)
