I made a chair. But I don't know how to configure the sitting position and orientiation. I don't want to add additional prims. Is there some available simple way? Thanks.

Another question, how to make the chair move onto the ground or some surface automatically or easily ? Thanks again.

You can place a sit pose and a poseball script directly in the seat prim of the chair, but if you do, you'll need to use some sort of notecard configuration or easily changed variables to allow the owner of the chair to reposition their avatar, since not all avatars are the same size. It's far easier to add one more prim and use a pose ball.

I posted a script here some time ago that will cause a piece of scripted furniture to rez at a particular height difference from the surface it was rezzed on. This is handy if you used cut prims in the sides of the chair, which normally rest on the bounding boox of the un-cut version of the prim. Looking for the script now...

Script to adjust rez height
01-16-2008 06:39
Here's the script:
From: someone
// adjust this height
float adjustHeight = -0.5; // how much the position should be adjusted when the object is rezzed. (m) -

default
{
on_rez(integer x) {
vector v = llGetPos ();
v.z = v.z + adjustHeight;
llSetPos(v);
}
}

So in this example, this causes the furniture it is in to rez 0.5 M lower than it would otherwise.

Chair Sitting

But how to set the sitting position and orientation on a chair? Anybody has the script or pose ball, or ... ? It happens I also want to know about it. :-)

I believe there is a free pose ball script in the Script Library. You can also get free pose ball scripts at most stores that sell animations. What you'll find with those scripts is that somewhere in them is a set of position coordinates that defines the distance and relative rotation from the pose ball to where the avatar sits in the designated pose. For the average pose ball, that is a fixed distance of about half a meter down from the ball, and you move or rotate the ball to adjust the position to suit you. Another part of a standard pose ball script changes the alpha transparency of the prim the script is in, so the pose ball isn't embedded in your tummy when you sit. That part can be commented out if you set the script up in the seat of the chair.

So in the seat of the chair, you place the pose script and an animation file for a basic sit position. (check freebie sites for collections fo full-perms basic sit animations, most of which were imported from an early version of Poser a long time ago.)

To make it nice, you'd want to learn and understand how scripting works, well enough to add either some ariables that are easy to change for the relative position and rotation of the person using the chair, or a section of code that gets those variables from an editable notecard in the chair.
