OK guys, I give in, I have been trying all day.

What I am trying to achieve is this: imagine a prim, 10m x 10m x 1m, then imagine the top surface slightly wavy, like the surface of a sheet of currugated iron, with a max wave depth of around 0.3m.

Is it possible?

It's possible, sure, but not with one prim. You'll want to use a series of cut cylinders or cut tubes to create the undulated shape you're talking about.

Sure, if we had customizable bump maps, which we don't. Also, if you can figure out how to make bumps appear convincingly to be the equivalent of 30 centimeters tall, whether in SL or anywhere else, I'd like to see it.

well he said "slightly wavy" and you can have customizable bump maps use brightness or darkness

Well, "slightly" is a subjective term. The number .3 meters is not.

I'd hardly call that "customizable". Even if you could grade the grayscale enough to make the surface appear to undulate up and down by .3 meters, which you can't, what you'd be left with is an untexturable surface. Put anything on it other than the gradient, and the bump effect would be lost, as you must know.
