I have been having a problem when attempting to duplicate an object - could be a single prim - using the shift key in combination with dragging a positioning arrow. About one third of the time the object is duplicated and slightly offset from the original item, and then I end up dragging the original item into a new position. In order to fix this mess I have to delete the duplicated item and then undo the move of the original. If I try again it usually works.
If this happened only occasionally, I could deal with it, but it happens constantly. I am absolutely certain I am not letting go of the shift key, or pressing some other key during the process.
Has any body else seen this?

Has any body else seen this? I've seen that almost all the time. My best guess has been that lag makes the system think for a split-second that you're dragging the item, rather than duplicating it. The faster you shift-drag, the farther the displacement is. When that happens, I switch to using ctrl-D to duplicate the object. It means I have to adjust it for the .5m offset, but at least leaves the original in place. - Newfie

Yep, happens if the original object has a rotation and I'm copying along the 'world' axis instead of the 'local' axis(ruler mode set to 'World' instead of 'Local' in the edit window). I don't know if thats whats happening in your situation, but it's the only thing I can think of . Hope that helps Fox

Thank you both!
Fox, I am going to experiment when I get home tonight. I think you may indeed be right about what is causing this for me. I did notice that the problem was more prevalent at times, and less so at others. I bet the difference was the rotation and the direction I was dragging in.

Just a quick distinction: when you shift-drag a copy you are actually dragging the original and leaving the copy behind. Sometimes it makes a difference to know that.
