OK, I'll admit, I'm a crap builder.

I make good, funny t-shirts, but 3D stuff bothers me.

However I wanted a bar fridge for my pub, a special one which I just couldn't
go to the shop and buy.

Basically a cube with an image on the front and a frame around the edge to
make it look like it has a door.

Now where I am is, I have the cube looking fairly fridgy and now comes the
frame.

How do you get a bit of "stick" exactly the same length as the fridge?
I fudge it along, and it's just a bit big the other end, so I shorten it and
it's too short, and it's not quite high enough.... then it's a bit low.

Is there some trick which i haven't seen yet which does a big Ta-DAAA!
and puts the right bit exactly where you need it... no, couldn't be,
life is not that simple is it?

if i understand you right, you want an edge around your cube somewhere...you could make a texture in any image software of choice and upload it, drawing the edge on your base texture; or you could maybe use the measure boxes in the edit window (my favorite edit tool, it makes life so easy :-) ): Just make your edge-shape a fraction bigger than your base cube, and align it with the x-y-z location settings as well. Or copy your box, enlarge it a fraction (using the numbers again, or use the stretch tool(mark stretch-both-ways) and hollow it out, maybe. You may always call on me when im inworld if you still feel exasperated too, i can hop over and help maybe, no promises though.

I have a feeling you have the option 'Stretch Both Sides' turned on in the edit panel.
What this does is, when you stretch one side, it stretches the other side together.

So you might have been moving the 'stick' and aligning it from one side, stretching it, and then looking at the other side to find that it gets misaligned again. Over and over again.

frame

I worked out that I should just hollow a cube, but I didn't know about measure
or the setting to stretch only one side.

so thanks.

But still... the frame is at a wonky angle, one corner sinking into the cube.

getting there now.

thanks.

I know your last post is a couple of days old, but just in case you still need help with aligning the frame and stopping it from being 'wonky'...

There may well be a better way of doing this, but this is how I'd go about it.

1. In Edit mode, have your original cube (the fridge) selected.
2. The default 'Position' tool should be on.
3. Now hold down the shift key and drag the arrow in the direction that will have the frame on it. This clones your prim and keeps it on the same axis and therefore perfectly aligned.
4. Go to the Object tab and you will see the the size edit boxes for x,y & z.
5. Change the values there so that the new prim you just cloned is slightly larger than the original. Flatten it along the required axis so that it is the right thickness for the frame.
6. Hollow it to the desired amount and use the 'Position' tool to slide it back into place.

This should make it aligned with the cube as it was created along the same axis.

If it's "wonky", it might be that one of the prims is rotated slightly. As Arun said this was a couple of days ago so you might've found that be now, but thought I'd say anyhoo.
