TPing to a skybox.....falling to your death

I have a parcel where access is limited to my husband and myself. About 400 meters above that I have a sky box. The rest of our island is open to the public.

The past couple of days I've TP'd people to my skybox only to watch them zip by flailing as they fall to their deaths past the intended landing zone (about 50 meters away and in mid air no less!).

Soooo my question is: how do I fix this and why is this happening? It certainly didn't do this a couple of weeks ago and I haven't changed anything.

There is no set landing location for that parcel and I'm well above the ban lines.

If this keeps up...I'll kill off all of my friends!

*sigh*

Thanks!

Doesn't limiting access to your parcel limit access to your skybox located above your parcel as well? I thought the only difference was that you don't see the banlines that high up. They're still there, though.

If this is the case, that's why they can't land on your parcel. They'll TP to the nearest available lot, which happens to be all sky, and plummet to the ground. Try adding them to the parcel access list before you TP them in.

*giggle* I could certainly warn them that they may come to a sudden stop :)

But the ban limits do not go up that high...people find their way there all of the time (even when they aren't invited).

Tis a mystery to me.

But I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

ETA: It appears that if the parcel is limited access, but above the ban lines you can fly there or whatnot...but you cannot TP there. How strange....is this a feature ;)

And the TP works for you and your husband?
I'd check the TP coordinates. I have my coordinates set about 1 meter abover the actual landing surface becasue I woudl see this phenomenon form time to time.

I know yesterday my TP sent me to the corner of the SIM for some reason....probably a glitch in the asset server?

You basically have two options... a long distance teleporter, or having them create a box, sit on it, and raise it 400m into the air. SL doesn't allow people to teleport directly to anything above... somewhere around 300m, I forget exactly. But it's a very useful thing for those of us who don't want people in our sky boxes.

Thanks for the info!

I have given in and simply allowed access to those I invite when I invite them, then taking them off of the access list once they leave.

This seems to have stopped them from plummeting to their deaths...although it is bother some times.

Not so.

A landmark can allow you to TP directly to a skybox at 700 meters. I do it all the time.

The free Cubey Terra Mark IV sit teleporter also can TP directly to 700M up. I use one as the main route for my guests to get to my skybox. Any teleporter or elevator that has you sit on something and ride it up will work to at least 700M.

The instantaneous type of in-sim teleporter that uses llSetPos to move you DOES have a limit of 300 meters. Those usually look like a sphere prim that you sit on, and *poof*, you're at the new location.

To eliminate land settings have you tried allowing access to all, allow scripts, allow object entry and anything else you can think of. If you can TP in with those enabled start ticking boxes one at a time until it stops working. At least you will know then why it is happening and/or prove it is/isn't anything to do with your land. You said you are at 400M, what is the land elevation maybe that is above 100M which would mean your restricted access lines are going above your house I think. Just a thought.

I had the same problem on my land parcel, people TP'ing to a skybox and falling 500mtrs.lol

The way i found to solve it was to get them to wear a FLIGHT FEATHER, worked every time after that.

Hope that helps

somewhere there's a good explination of why this happens, I THINK it's related to the acuracy of things. If you put something at 255, it'll be at 255 +/- .0001, if you put something at 257, it'l be at 257 +/- .1
if you put something at 1000m, it's +/- something like 1.0

when you get REALLY high you'll see some interesting insanity as the engine's precision gets to be less than your AV's height

So, theoretically, when someboyd gets teleported really high, they're possibly below the floor, so fall through, even though displayed as above. Assuming this is true, offering them a teleport 10m above the floor should cause them to land in the skybox
