I've never created a custom avie before other than to alter my own appearance in game. With that said, would it be too great a feat for me (a novice) to attempt to make a celeb look alike avatar? I've shopped at all the shops who sell celebs, but none have the celeb I want. Is there anyone out there who makes their avie's from an actual photo? I'd really like to hope that I could learn how to make celebs w/ a look of real to it. I add that I do have PSP & PS knowledge, I've found the template on SL web site and have it d/led. But above that, I have no idea how to start this task...any how to help appreciated.

I'm making good progress on my first skin (from photos). I can tell you that it is a lot of work. I will leave it to the experts to give you their advice. I would suggest that you post this in the design and textures forum, as making a skin means making textures. There have been a few good threads on making skins in that forum already, so do a search there.

If you do find a store that claims to sell a skin or shape of a famous person, or uses the name of a famous person to sell their products, then they are almost certainly breaking the law unless they have a contract with that famous person.

Not necessarily. Parody is fair use. If it's supposed to be a caricature or something, then it can be legit. Generally, you're right though.
