Removing Clouds From Structure

Ok, I've rezzed a prefab and raised it for a skybox. Unfortunately I did not realize that the height I had froze it at allowed the clouds to come through the structure. I have asked the prefab company and they said that there is no way to unfreeze and move it again. I would have to rezz it competely over. The problem is I have done so many modifications to the inside now I don't want to start all over. Any thoughts on this? The clouds are really screwing with my place. I think I know how to remove the clouds for my OWN view, but what about residents visiting? Is there a way to remove clouds from my particular plot of land?

One note. I do have a huge open section on my structure which I have not tried closing yet. But I am imagining that that will not work. But I will try.

Thanks in advance....

huh? surely if it belongs to you, you just drag and select all and move it up?

I am unaware of how to do that. I mean I've tried floating outside and left clicking and draging but it won't select anything. I'm probably not doing that right.

You can't exclude the clouds. You will have to move higher or lower. No options. They go through everything if you are at their level, and they cause lag, too.

Select everything that you own in the skybox, including the skybox itself, Sit on top of the skybox, and just drag it higher.

You should be able to edit the position of the skybox exactly as you would any other prims. If you can't, then check to see if the linksets for the skybox are "locked", and uncheck that option.

Make sure you have the Edit box open when you are drawing around the structure.

Double check to make sure your prefab link sets aren't "locked" into place. When your prefab maker said "unfreeze" this is probably what they meant and it can indeed be undone with a simple click. There is no way to "freeze" a prim into place without using the lock feature.

Edit menu>>Objects Tab>>Locked (checkbox)

You can not remove the clouds from everyone"s view, but you can turn them off on Your screen. Try CTRL ALT SHIFT - all held at the same time. This will remove ALL the clouds, both windlight and particle.

To remove just the particle clouds...
>World
>environmental editor
>Advanced SKY
>Clouds
>unclick "draw classic clouds"

Again this is only for Your view, moving the home up or down a few meters may be easier.

best of luck =)

Thank You!

Thank you all sooo much for the tips. I must say though, the thought of selecting ever single item plus all the parts of the structure seems a little bit daunting.... stay tuned.... Why doesn't the Select All option ever become available?

You can select all objects easily. Just open your Edit window ... CTRL-3 ... and then left-click and drag a box around the objects you want to select. Be sure that you have clicked the Select Only My Objects option in the Tools menu first, of course, and ckeck to be sure you haven't accidentally selected something in the background that you didn't intend to.

The only risk is that if you do this when you are too far away from the objects you are selecting, very small ones might not be selected. If you worry about this, zoom in and pan your camera around to see what's not highlighted. Then CTRL-click to add them.

That was a huge help for the selecting part. Unfortunately I did try sitting and selecting all and then raising everything pretty much to no avail. I could only get so high and then it seemed like even though the meters were rising I wasn't getting any higher, so I put in 500m in there and a piece of my buiding dissappeared. So somewhere around 500 m there is one piece of my structure. So long story short, I took everything I purchased in my structure, and pretty much deleted the structure entirely. Wanted to start clean, fine. I did that, started with the up arrow on the rez box(per instructions) slowly. Then wanted to see if I could get the whole thing up to 500 so I inputed 500 and my whole rez box dissappeared never to be seen again. So now, I have lost my rez box(luckily still have my structure) which is probably along side the one piece of structure I shot up there previously.

So here is my next question. With those items, and perhaps a few more who knows, up at that altitude, I'm pretty sure they are still going against my prim allowance. Is there any way to find out if there is ANYTHING above my structure? I can only fly up to about what, 200? what about above that. The select thing won't work either because I have come to find out that it only selects things within a certain distance. So, is there any way to do this and prevent unwanted prim use?

Flightfeather

There are a number of flightfeather scripts out there for free, as well as built in to various attachments, that act as flight assists, allowing you to fly to the maximum world height (currently 4000+ meters)

search the forums, SLEX, or in world for flightfeather. Other attachments, such as rocket packs, wings, and some AOs will often have flight assist as well.

Candi, you're missing a flight feather. I'll pass you one inworld, so you can fly up to 500 mts. and rescue your prim count..:-)

You can also sit on a prim, then edit the Z-height value for the prim, and you will zip instantly to that altitude. Just make sure your camera is focussed on your avatar before you edit the height. And make sure before you stand up that you have rezzed another prim to stand on, so you don't start sky-diving when you stand up.

Incidentally, hiding the clouds in your own viewer does not remove the lag that they cause when you are in the cloud layer...

This is interesting. So the clouds only cause lag when you are up in them? I'm building a bunch of stuff at 1000 meters. Will this build suffer from appreciably more lag up there than if it were lower, or is that above the clouds?

Thanks,

Doug

Clouds are just over 200 meters, so 1k meters is well away from them.

Yes, clouds only cause lag issues when you are in the cloud layer, at roughly 200 M elevation. Being well above them, such as 1000 or even 400 Meters, you get no lag from the clouds below you. Also, if you are high enough that you can't see the ground, or can't see it clearly, then objects and scripts on the ground create a LOT less lag for you. Had a parcel once in a busy commercial sim. Laggy on the ground, where most of the vending scripts were. Almost lag-free at 700 Meters.
