Okay so I know how to make the Frame.. Edit/Create/Box.. What I am wondering is how do you make the actual frame part around it, recolor just the border etc.. Any help would be great :) Thanks

Easiest way is to create a box, flattened and apply the picture as a texture. Then make a second box, flattened thats larger than the picture box was to form the frame around the picture. Then just texture this "frame" the way you want it to appear.

Okay, then do I just link the 2? Or how do I make the middle of the box empty?

Making a frame
01-22-2007 11:33
Ooooh - I can answer that :)

Make your shape with correct x,y and z sizes then use Hollow (on the Object tab) - probably 90 to 95 for a frame (maximum is 95).

Or - you can just add one in photoshop - even easier :)

You can either do what Cat said or you can lift the middle box with the picture on it up a little bit from the background frame. Think piece of paper on top of another piece of paper. The bottom piece is the frame, the top piece is the picture. Thats the way I do it and no fiddling with hollow settings etc.

Just need one prim even...

make a box to size you want, taper x and y, texture however u want (I usually go for a dark wood then apply a medium shine), click select texture in edit, click on the face that was tapered, and apply your texture there (make sure to unclick shine/color from this face).

Voila! one prim picture frames. You can do this with cylinder faces as well.

Oh, and don't forget to click the light settings in the texture box, that way your picture is brighter.

Ping me if you've got anymore questions.

Look up Evolving Images in search. There are a few examples of picture frames there.

I feel no shame plugging that either :P

Frames
01-22-2007 17:29
Just looking round now Max - those frames are done exactly as I described :) nice little gallery... hmmm - I think I'm gonna buy one of those picture radios...

Have your picture in front of the frame Dante??? 'Fiddling' with hollow settings - enter one number and it's done!!!

Elle - sounds interesting - but you said taper TWO of the sides then click on THE face that was textured - which one??? Did you mean the face that WASN'T tapered? Taper by how much? How does tapering make a frame? Very confusing...

I'll send you the one I just did Rose - see what you think... maybe others will send you examples of theirs?

Cat,

Yes, taper both x & y. I usually taper to .15, it makes a goodly size frame around the pic.

I usually do, x = 3, y=3 & z=.100.

As for texturing, I texture everything in the wood/metal I want, then click in the EDIT box, up top where it says Select Texture, and then click on the face that's been tapered and apply the pic you want to that face. Then unclick anything else you've put on that face, Shine, color, etc.

Holler at me in game if ya wanna see. :)

Or just go to my store (classifieds in Profile), my current Valentine dresses are on said frames above.

Okay.. Thank you :) I got the frame, but at the time I didn't know I was going to be getting one, so I denied it.. Sorry.. If you could send it to me again... If I don't know who the person is or if I'm not expecting anything, then I don't accept it.. Sorry :( But now I know and I will. Thanks again everyone :) When I figure it out I will post a pic of it.. lol :)
