Hey everyone, I've been a member for a while but its not until this week I'm really taking an interest in SL.

I've played around with making some objects, though all I made so far was a huge halo that makes you float really high in the air when worn....

Anyway, I was reading a bunch of forum articles relating to how people think the economy is going to explode because the Draw is going away and other folks were talking about how the way to make money is going to be to offer unique services, products, and events.

So some of you might have heard about the Freedom Ship. Its this huge ship that's being designed that is going to sail around the world and people are going to live on it. Has its own airstrip and everything. Construction is supposed to begin in 2007 I think.

So it made me think... could I build something like that in Second Life. Basically, it would be a huge ship that would travel to different parts of the Second Life world on this neverending voyage. People will be able to rent places to live on it. There will be stores, clubs, etc. It will be a focal point for all kinds of events, etc. Hell, if it got a big enough permanent population maybe the residents could even setup some kind of government like some of the other places in Second Life.

So, I need to know more about the limitations of the SL system. This would essentially be a giant object that wouldn't be tied to a particular piece of land. I want it to fly, to provide more access to locations. (plus I've heard there are limitations to sailing right now)

Would it be possible to create something like this that my avatar maintains ownership of and will still exist in Second Life, even when I'm not logged in? It wouldn't do well for people to be hanging out one second over an ocean, only to have the entire ship disappear and everyone takes a swim.

I'm interested in hearing opinions. Thanks.

Unfortunately, you`d prolly need ta declare th` ship as a vehicle, an` vehicles have a tiny hard-limit max prim-count; not nearly enough ta build a ship wi`. Besides, think o` the lag when th` ship sails inta a loaded sim, an` what happens ta th` passengers when th` ship sails inta a sim what`s already reached its Maximum Avatar count.

Don`t gets me wrong, Shugah, Ah likes th` idear; Ah jes`t don`t think it`ll work.

That said, try it anyway; y`all jes` might well prove me wrong!

Good luck, Dearie! Toodle-oo!

Some info for you Geuis.

- There is a script called a 'multimove' script that moves several large groups of prims in unison. The vehicle will be non physical tho.
- It needs to be set up so that the stuff are linked, so vendors and people renting space to place furniture is out of the question.
- Avatars do not follow moving prims very well unless they are sitting on them.
- Crossing sim borders will tend to break the script or just make it confused, resulting in disjointed parts.
- Some people set their land to not allow external scripts. Thats another barrier.
- When you ship flies over someone elses land, and its set to autoreturn prims, whole or parts of your ship will end up in your inventory.
- Cubey Terra had that blimp that flew around a few sims which anyone could hitch a ride on while its in midflight. It was a source of annoyance for some.

If you can deal with some of those issues, then it should be ok.
