Please take a minute and vote for Prop 3080!! Thank You!!
(and while you're at it, check out 3079 too :) )

Full Featured Localized offline builder/editor application.
Category: building

--------------------

Feature Detail:
A full-featured, offline builder/editor application. This application could run completely locally, OR it could even run online connected to Linden Labs. With a connected version, multiple users could even share a build with each other.

1. Having an offline/off live grid builder/editor would allow users to build without needing to find open spaces of land.
2. Would prevent griefing while building in a Sandbox.
3. Prevent auto-return while building in a sandbox.
4. Projects could be saved as project files and reopened in previous states.
5. Users could experiment with a full 'sim' that isn't live or connected. Would allow for large builds to be done offline, helping to ease lag. Great for testing particles too.
6. Would allow for much more robust building tools, such as orthographic views, better snap tools (easier to snap on a specific axis while in orthographic view)
7. Allow for texturing, and then textures could be charged during the model import stage.
8. Finally, these builds could be simply imported into the live SL grid when completed.

Please consider this, it would make us builders so much happier and productive. The quality of builds in SL would skyrocket.

Sounds very tasty and I would love to give it a try, but where can I see it?

I think he's suggesting petitioning LL to make one, rather than listing features of an existing building app.

I think LL have their hands full improving and stabilizing the current features. I would not expect them to provide an offline server/client system for a while yet. I definitely want them to stabilize the server software!

However, now that the client has been open sourced, the server api's are much clearer and I did see (forget where, sorry) some group starting to build an open source server that you can run your client from, but it was still at a very early stage, and I would not expect an offline builder editor for quite a while yet.

Hi there,

I believe there is something in the pipeline by Autodesk. No idea when it comes out but in the meantime you all should have a look on the following Article, klick here ->;(http://blogs.business2.com/utilitybelt/2007/01/design_tools_to.html)

best regards

As ed44 said in the comments to the autodesk article, autodesk and LL need to compromise on the use of mesh or parametric prims. One way or the other, should provide a future for LL.
