Japanese Themed Community

I think I may have inadvertedly destroyed my house when my computer crashed while remodelling. Well, if I'm going to start over, this is as good of a way as any.

I'd like to plan a Japanese medieval/fantasy community in the new zones. I've already made blueprints for a two- to three-story Japanese pagoda, imported the textures, and designed some of the more difficult primitives involved. Given the space and time, the only thing that'd hold me back from completion is money.

I think building a full-fledged community of this type would be fascinating. It's an oft-overlooked theme, particularly as far as games are concerned, which seem to prefer Western mythology as opposed to Eastern. I'm willing to head the group required as well as create basic designs for houses and market shops within the community.

Anyone worried about me burning out on this doesn't know me and my projects very well. ;^)

What do you guys think?

Heck I'd love to, there are accualy sereval japanese themed buildings dotting the world of SL right now, hell I had one for awhile till taxes killed it, but it would be interesting to see a community modeled in this fashion.

Count me in. But if I end up on too many projects I may only be able to provide funding rather than work. Count on me for $5,000.

Thanks -
Kerstin

This idea sounds very cool. I really am getting physced for all these differnt projects people are thinkin or tryin to start. I REALLY WANT TO WORK ON ONE TONIGHT IN WORLD.

I realize you probably want linden funding so that probably wont happen. Have you contacted a linden yet about this ? Or just getting people together?

Well, I more than made up for being gone for three days... tonight I've built the first three stories of the Japanese pagoda that will be the highlight of this community. I've also created the community's group; it'll be known as Yamato (which is the oldest known word for Japan itself.)

If you want to see the construction in progress, it's just east of the Bump-And-Run course. It's been crafted so I can just pick it up and drop it when the new zones are opened. (After the fiasco with my house, I developed a new way to do so, and have already tested it to make sure it works.)

I'm still looking for community members to join in on the Yamato project. If you can't think of anything to fit in with the community, let me know! There's plenty of opportunity for small shops in a marketplace and so on... and remember, you can join more than one of these community projects.

Dear god, woman -- how much coffee were you drinking last night? lol

Seriously, this sounds so fantastic. I would love to build a Japanese tea house.

It's so great to see everyone so enthusastic and excited about these themed communities!

:)

If you have not yet been by to see Yuniq's pagoda, it is well worth the trip. The modeling on the roof is exquisite and the texturing is incredible. Truly a breathtaking build.

I'd love to work on this project but am not much of a builder. However I can contribute $$, ideas, and labor. If you have room, please count me in!

*raises hand*

as i'm sure you already know yuniq, i'm in on this ;)

however, i'm broke as hell and working closer to the $0 mark every day, but i'll keep enough set aside to buy my plot, and will be more than happy to help out with scripting. right now on a scale of 1-100, my scripting expertise is probably about an 11 or 12, but i'm working on it :D

We've posted a preliminary layout on a billboard right next to the pagoda, along with some team member photos and a community logo.

I'm still tweaking with the design... I'd like to pull back the small pagodas and make two gardens in the space... but it's a start.

With all the secrecy surrounding a couple of the projects (which I'm sure it a necessary evil because of their theme), I thought we should open our ideas up, to get some community feedback before Tuesday.

P.S. I'll add a notecard explaining most of the map... in case you're curious about the "Lotus Blade" tournament, for example.
