I did something dumb I admit. Is there any way to return to inv an owned object by name without disrupting everything else on a parcel? I lost something and I would like it back but I also have a treehouse my partner lives in that I would really like not to have to re rez. And yes its lost somewhere in there. And yes it was an old sexgen mattress i bought months ago and never used. I know i could just return my stuff on my land but there are too many things we have played with (and with others) to do that. Too many multi-creator builds. Should I just never come back?

Sirhc- It may help to give some more info...
is the object no-copy? (If not you can just rez another copy)
How did you lose it? If it is transparent or if it went underground or inside another object you will need to show hidden objects (ctrl-alt-t on a pc) and hope you can spot it.
If it went flying off somewhere else I can't think how you will get it back unless auto-return is set wherever it ended up...maybe someone else can answer that?

I would try using an object scanner to locate it. There is a resonably priced one at sensations(153,172,60) . I use the 'Advanced Object-Scanner Hud' from Conover's Gadget Shop, Titian(135,223,351). Both do a scan within a specified radius and point to the object with a particle emitter. This will at least give you an idea where the thing is. If its embedded in the floor or the ground or something, it may be difficult to find. You can turn off the terrain to see if its in the ground with ctrl->alt->shift->5. If its embedded in something else, you can turn on wireframe rendering with ctrl->shift->R. Of course, you can turn them back off with the same keystrokes. Once you locate the object, you might need to move things around a little to get to it. This is certainly a lot easier than re-rezzing a complex build. Hope this helps.

OK i did it the easy way - the build wasnt fully kinked so i dropped the part i thought i'd lost it in 5m. Grabbed my lost bits and went back and raised the build back up. Hope she doesn't notice. Thanks again

after you droped the build, you could have reselected it and hit ctrl-Z (undo) and it would have moved right back where you moved it from.
