Hi, I'm wondering if the following is a feature or a bug. When building, I enter a lot of postion/size/texture repeat numbers into the edit dialog manually. I tend to use very precise numbers such as 1.738. But when I enter the number in the edit box, it always rounds up or down when I hit enter or tab so that 1.738 becomes 1.740. If I go back and re-enter the number I wanted a second time, it stays at the original value (1.73 I intended it to be. This quickly becomes very annoying when working on a large build, Is there a setting for this, or do I have to live with double entries on every prim on a large build? - Sam

Unfortunately with every new version of SL comes new rounding problems. For reasons unknown, LL seems to delight in changing what kinds of numbers are acceptable and what numbers aren't from version to version. For theories as to why, take your pick. There are hundreds. As for dealing with it, all I can suggest is what I've done myself, which is to resign myself to the fact that precision in SL is not a realistic hope, and learn to live with "close enough" when building. Seams, gaps, overlaps, etc. are not possible to eliminate completely or permanently.
Sorry, I know that's probably not the answer you were looking for, but it's the only one I have.

Hi Sam
All numbers are floats and should be accurate to 6 or 7 decimal digits, but in practise it seems to be less than 4 digits. I wonder if this is because the sim location is figured into the number as well. Da Boom is at location 1000 and the others seem to be within a 100 or so from that number. If I am right you would get more accuracy in a sim with lower coordinates (on the sw grid corner). Does not help you but might explain it.
I also have problems that some values change when changing other values when editing measurents. Usually fixed by persisting with updating the different boxes. Strange though. This is not a bug I can repeat so hard to report.

Yeah this is one of many things that needs to change a.s.a.p if LL's wants any real quality in SL. Don't get me wrong, there are some really nice builds in SL. But anyone who has experience in any other application knows that their time is better spent in something like Maya. And selling their models on PayLoadz. Or something of that sort. In any case, sometimes I think that those who want high quality in SL are in the minority. Probably because it's hard to care about putting much time into builds. The tools, scripting language, servers, and of course griefers, are going to fight us all the time. Thats not to say it's LL's problem. Thats just current technology. It's not their fault the tech doesn't exist yet. Well I think it exists but it's not really practical. We would all need something better than broadband or cable just to log in or something. But on the bright side. Things can only get better. Even if we do take two steps backwards with every update. Because once upon a time the internet had nothing but text with a smaller community than SL. And then it only allowed ugly GIF files and took off like a mad thing. I guess 3D interent platforms are somewhere in that stage.
