erm - help? welcome to Sl.. hehe I think we've all done it. Adjust your camera so you're looking straight down on the area that the object is. Click the build button (opens up edit box) and then drag a box over the area. The object should highlight in your drag box. Change the Z coordinates in the edit box back up to the height you want, and your object will be cured.

also check your lost and found folder. it's possible it got returned from going off-world as i'd expect things buried that deeply would do.

Two more options:
Press Ctrl-Alt-D to add the two debugging menus to your menu bar at the top of the screen. Then go Client -> Rendering and then uncheck Ground, Surface Patch, and Water. That will turn off visibility for land and water. You should now be able to see your under-ground objects, grab them, and restore them their normal height.
-OR-
Press Ctrl-Alt-D to add the two debugging menus to your menu bar at the top of the screen. On the Client menu, towards the bottom, you'll see an option called "Disable Camera Constraints". Turn that on, and you'll be able to move your camera underground (and everywhere else). You'll be able to zoom in your underground objects, grab them, and move them back up above ground.

It also could be in your trash if you have not found it yet. Maybe it will fall down and land on me and I can have it. I was unlucky and got no first land, so this would be quit a find for me. I don't think it makes a difference how long you have been in SL everyone still makes mistakes. We love them, they make us laugh ourselves silly, you see. We would love to hear me too...
Have a wonderful time in SL.
