Did I imagine it or did I see somewhere that there's something you can use to create virtual objects, so increasing the amount of prims you can have on your land? Apologies if my question is using the wrong terminology but basically I'm searching for something that will inexpensively and easily increase the prim quota on my land Thanks in advance for any help

You can create temporary prims (also called "temp-on-rez" prims). They disappear after a short period of time... a few seconds to a couple of minutes at most.
While it's possible to construct clever scripts to "regenerate" temp-on-rez prims as they disappear, such practice tend to just create lag for everyone, and not likely what you'd want to do.

Well, you could, but it's currently a bit borked since the update. Do a search for 'temp on rez' and you'll find some threads on the matter. I believe the 'life' of temp on rez prims is two minutes. As and when you can get them to work without using the physical prim count of your land, that is *waves her bug-report banner*

Right now, temp-on-rez prims are being counted exactly the same as normal prims, and affect parcel prim count. That bug has been reported.
It's making a lot of sims report errors where fish rezzers and other harmless, low-volume rezzers are creating temp prims that are crossing into full or nearly full parcels.
