Can anyone tell me, what are the best texture alignment tools?
So far all I have tried is prim.docker, but this program does not allow me to work with objects that do not belong to me (I'm not sure if this is a limitation of prim.docker or of SL). Are there any tools out there that can treat multiple prim faces as a single face to apply texture to- and can be used on others' objects?
Thanks

Any tool will work only insofar as you have mod rights for the objects. Furthermore, if the object doesn't belong to you and is a link set of several prims, you won't be able to edit individual parts of the link set even if you do have mod rights. Keeping those limitations in mind, I've been using a tool called TextureAlign (search for it on slexchange.com) which worked quite well.

For planar surfaces, I use a script called TexFix, which works quite well. For non-planar surfaces, I'm not aware of any scripted solution that is clever enough to understand what I need it to do. For those, I always apply a test pattern for alignment. My test pattern is available free at /109/45/214824/1.html . Just slap it on, line up all the numbers, and then replace it with your actual texture.

So it's an SL limitation then? Why is this? I can manually add add/modify textures or change the size etc of linked prims that I don't own... why can't a program do it? Chosen- Thanks, I have your test pattern already, it's great. Do you happen to know if I can use TexFix on linked objects belonging to other avatars?

I have been using number grids for specific object and texture creation on prims but alignment only works if I match the numbers of painted surface to grid properly. Although its a whole lot of work. I have sevaral different ones similar to free hi res texture alignment grid Chosen mention except mine have number or letter symbols on every square. Not sure though if this is what you're seeking but a texture artist showed me how gave me some samples of making complex texture surfaces that I could show you in world if you need help still when I am around. Hard part is getting the image to line up properly with the prim though.

From: Kitah Ferranti So it's an SL limitation then? Why is this? I can manually add add/modify textures or change the size etc of linked prims that I don't own... why can't a program do it? You can? I can't. If I don't own the object, checking "Edit linked parts" or "Select texture" cancels my selection. I've always taken that to be a security limitation in SL. Is it a bug on my end?
