hi all. i'm trying to make a curved horn. think viking helmet. ;) i've played around with different shapes, but haven't been able to figure this out. i've gotten a pointy cone sort of shape, but no curves. does anyone know how this can be done?

this is for something that i'm planning on selling as part of an outfit. if someone could just point me in the right directions, it would be much appreciated. :)

Create a Torus,
set "Taper" X to 1.00 and Y to 1.00,
And Set Cut Beginning to 0.50, Cut end to 1.00

That should be basically what you're looking for - try making copies of that object and playing with the radius delta, revolutions, and hole size.

Aaahh, Yes! The Torus...

The sophisticated builder's friend...
...and nightmare!

It's a GREAT shape, if you can tame it because it can become just about any dynamic shape that you can't get any other way... But figuring out HOW to make it DO that dance can be quite the thorny little challenge...

Need a dinosaur bone? Use the Torus...
Faaabulous fine millinery? Torus again (With his buddy, the hemishphere...)
Need a Scimitar?? Torus...
Realistic tree branches? Torus...
Hey, Baby! What your sign? ... um...er... nevermind, you get the idea.

So when you see something REALLY cool, and you can't figure out how the builder did it with just a few prims, he was probably using a creative application of Toruses (Tori? Torae?)

(Tori? Torae?)

Tori. I was first thinking torii.. but it's tori. Actually in SL, people usually don't use tori to make a torii...

Ehh honestly you need a torus

adjust the revloution settings

and set the x and y taper to 1 or negative 1

Cut one end or the other to trim it down to the desired length

stretch and pull till it fits what you want it to :3.

Not a nightmare just a bit more complicated than strech pull badabam.

TorTangent... Michi Lumin did these kind of curves before torus was even a shape in SL. Amazing mathematics, she's got mad skillz! Check out some of her avs. Or, for another variation on a theme, visit Welsh and look for this work by Clarissa Dassin.

While we're talking about torus'ses, please exercise the utmost care in the spelling of your tori. Nobody likes to have problems with tori spelling.

<Logan promptly beats himself senseless for that comment, so you don't have to! :P>
