All of a sudden when I am editing or even on mouseovers my cursor turns into a black box making it impossible to edit. I'm sure it's a setting somewhere but i'll be damned if I can find it.

thanks in advance

Sounds like a video driver issue to me. Are you using a supported video card? Do you have the latest drivers for it? How current is you Direct-X?

This is a new problem...I have been in sl since January and this just started happening
so I would say it is not my drivers and i am missing some setting somewhere in my preferences but i'll be damned if I can find it.

I'm not aware of any preference setting that turns your cursor into a black box. You've got nothing to lose by humoring me on this except about 3 minutes of your time. Download the latest driver for your video card, uninstall your current driver, and then install the new one. Restart your machine and then uninstall and reinstall SL.

If the problem persists after that, you can tell me how wrong I was. Until then, my money's placed squarely on driver corruption.

This is all assuming you do in fact have a supported video card, of course. If you don't then all you can really do is consider yourself lucky you didn't start having problems sooner.

you might have Hardware acceleration turned down. Go to your display Properties,, Settings Tab, click Advanced then go to the trouble shooting tab. make sure Hardware Acceleration is all the way up.
