Hi, guys. Have never done this and don't have a clue--how do you put stone or wood steps into the side of your sloping parcel? I've seen it done, but not sure if its one structure you place or individual sections. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Ashe,

Well there are probably steps you can buy somewhere, but if you want to build steps yourself you have to build it step by step (letteraly). You rezz a prim (box) and stretch it untill you have a step, place another prim on it and stretch it untill you have the second step, etc.

Stairs are build up with individual prims, you can link.

I had build stairs once myself with color changing scripts in them. It looked very great.

three ways...

single prim per step, like building stairs with landscaping timbers. Just stack them up in a row up the hill... Takes the most prims, easiest to build.

single prim per two steps. Cut a cube prim at 0.125 and 0.875, make it taller, turn it 90 degrees. Now you have an L-shaped double-step unit. Takes half as many prims, still looks good all the time.

Sculpty and ramp: Have a ramp for them to actually walk on, and cover it with a phantom sculpted prim that looks like 12 steps! Sculptypaint (see forum threads in this forum) makes it pretty easy to make that kind of sculpty shape. Takes far fewer prims. Looks good once the sculpty rezzes properly. Level of detail issues may distort how the steps look, making them slightly skewed or even a flat ramp, at certain times.

Of course, if your hill is of a cooperative slope, you won't need the ramp...

the sculpty steps work better IMO. i used individual steps before and while i was able to have more control over the design (and waste more time dealing with them), using a sculpty and a invisible prim ramps allows the avatar to walk much more smoothly without the lovely "bump bump" sound happening.

I also ended up reclaiming over 60 prims by 'upgrading' to sculpty steps
