Tonight's topic is:
"Jesus: Literal Lamb of God?"
The British evangelical author Steve Chalke has caused a controversy with his book "The Lost Message of Jesus" in which, his detractors claim, he rejects the doctrine of "penal substitution".
This sniggerworthy phrase is the belief that Jesus' death was necessary in order for our sins to be forgiven, that he was a sacrficial lamb to placate God.
Many Christians have rejected this notion, and claim it is not an original teaching of the church. Chalke is probably the first evangelical, mainstream author to do so.
Is he right? Is it just an outdated notion? Is it Biblical? Is it illogical? Come along and give us your tuppence worth. IM me for a TP, or use the teleporter at the landing point.
