ok I'm translating a book into note format meaning I'm changing a 400 page book into a bunch of notes. first of all how can I script a menu to pop up giving the option to look at these notes when you touch the book. and how can I protect the note content from being copied.

Check out llDialog and llGiveInventory.
As far as the ability to copy goes... If they can read it, they can copy it. If you set the note to no-copy, they can't view it. If you set it to copy/no-trans, they can select the text and use ctrl+c.
Nothing you can do except deal with it.

You could create an image of each page of text instead of writing notecards. Of course, this is going to cost some L$ to upload. Unless you need good resolution and fast loading you shouldn't need 400 though. You can use multiple sheets per texture and then use texture offsets and scaling to reclaim the individual pages. Then the book can either rez the pages in-world, or put the pages into the user's inventory. If you go with the second, you could actually make them HUD attachments so they are only rendered on the one user's client. Am I going over the top? Of course, this is all going to make the no-copying thing a little tricky probably. I suppose you could make them no-transfer and have them die after a small period if they aren't attached.... EDIT: LOL. Oh, and if you want to get too paranoid about it, there's nothing to keep them from doing a screen capture and feeding it into OCR.
