I don't mean to be rude, bhis forum is not for "asking for free scripts".. if you're interested in writing your own script, we'll be happy to help you if you run into trouble, but this post really belongs in "Products Wanted", not "Scripting Tips"

if it's a fairly straight path from the top to the bottom of the slide, you could script a pose ball to move to a set point with llMoveToTarget when someone sits down, and then unsit them when it gets there and then snap back to the top of the slide. or instead of snapping it back to the top of the slide, you can have the user touch the slide to rezz the ball, user sits on ball, ball moves to target and dies, which also unsits the user

with the water slides I noticed that if you remove the slide the pose ball at the top of slide you sit on is still there.

poking into the ball it appears that the sliding downward in a spiral motion is actually an animation that moves you from top point "a" to bottom point "b" I thought this was rather clever.

yes but that's an animation, they were asking for a script :-p. the method i'm talking about is something like the rope climbing objects i've seen. the poseball is at one end of the rope, and when a user "sits" it plays a rope climbing anim while moving towards the other end of the rope. and since it's using llMoveToTarget, it's physical and moves more smoothly than using llSetPos. and it can be customized depending on the size of the slide or whatever object you want. using an animation makes the size of the object limited to the "size" of the animation.

I would like to try my hand at a water-slide.. certainly I have seen ones where the pose ball actually moves (I was playing on one this afternoon, in fact, at Abbey Island. However, while I can make things move in straight lines and I can also move them in circles and ellipses on a plane, my mathematical skills don't extend to combining the two.. can anyone give me any hints in this direction?

Consider building a physical "sled".. you probably don't even have to do MUCH in the way of scripting it.. The sled appears as a ball (with an invisible sled beneath it) the user "sits" and takes on a "sliding" pose.. then the sled turns physical, drops a bit, hits the slide and WHEEEEEEEE... When the slide stops moving, or perhaps when it intersects with a invisible, phantom wall at the end, just trigger the llDie command. Make the sled temp, so even if it misses the barrier, it will auto-delete after 60 seconds, once the user gets up.

You could set up a rezzer at the top of the slide, that could rez a "temp" sled... Basically click to rez the sled, the sled rezzes, get on the sled, whee, sled dies.

Winter, probably a stupid question ... but is Havok smart enough that you could hang a T-bar off a physical rope that's tilted downward, sit on it, go physical, and slide to the bottom of the rope? Like a zip line?

Edit: tries to think of having done this in SL, can't.

Why bother? when you can just drop the ball straight down?

Sorry, I was unclear :o

Think of a line across the Grand Canyon, running from a very high spot on one side to a lower spot on the other. An avatar crossing this could fly, or ... hop on a T-bar and slide down the line to the other side, which would be much coolier.

ooh zip line, that would be cool, same as the striahgt line slide method i mentioned i think, unless you want it to dip like a real zip line as you ride down, then it can get tricky

it could probably be done with waypoints and a particle rope. the rope would actually be 2 particle sources targeting the t-bar from either end of the line to give the effect of it dipping. i tried working on a waypoint script that could be programmed on the fly but i couldn't figure it out. there's a freebie shark on zstreet that uses what i'm talking about, but the script isn't mod :-(

with material type glass, it's possible.. but the angle of the rope still needs to be fairly considerate to work (looks like it needs about a 15 degree incline, to work, and the slider must have it's material type NOT set to wood (material affects friction)
